Realistically, I think they'd see temps of about 120C. My concern is that the repeated heat cycles and weather exposure would make them brittle.

Then again, they're really easy to replace.

If they do weather poorly, we'd all like to know if there are any good high temp zip ties out there. Don't laugh too hard, they exist. I have worked with equipment that goes to 500degf regularly and it had zip ties. I just never thought about what they were made of...

Chugging along. Nice work. The spacers under the steering rack are to make clearance for the driver's side turbo exhaust and steering shaft.

If these angles are not just right, you will feel the engine vibrate against the steering shaft either at idle or between shifts. Don't ask how I know.

Zip tie heaven

This thread has caused me to have new found respect for zip ties. These many options can make a mod all in themselves.

Cable Ties - Nylon Zip Ties - Wire Ties - Wholesale Cable Tie Products
Some example products:
Tefzel ties feature resistance to radiation, flames, ultraviolet light, chemicals, and high temperatures
STAINLESS STEEL CABLE TIES are ideal for harsh, corrosive, and salt-water environments, chemical and radiation exposure, temperature extremes, and food processing
COBRA LOW PROFILE CABLE TIE heads increase safety by eliminating snags, cuts, and abrasions to cables, hoses, products, and users

They have a ton of colors, too. This was just a quick Google, not an endorsement of this site. Although the Cobra Low Profile is just screaming out...

Thanks, guys. I was a tech for years and installed zip ties on hotter components. That's not a concern to me now, but it's a valid point. I'll be looking.

We've been SLAMMED with snow up here in the past week. I haven't been to The Shop in days, and I texted the owner today about G37 progress. He said he made progress shoveling some of the lot.

I took that as a sign that I've been put on hold for spell. It's OK. I'm happy that my car is safely inside and chillin'. I'll probably drop down tomorrow.

Well, the snow took a toll on the workweek at The Shop. The torch gases arrived late this week. No further progress on that there.

(Edit: Earlier confusion (on my part) about ECU tuning being remedied. Thanks for the call Sam! Props to GTM.)

It's looking great. All the components and front end is complete, and it's only awaiting the tuning/ECU and fitting the exhaust. (That and fire-up/test/dyno etc. !)

I'm anxious, but not impatient. There's a difference.

That's what I know.

The Shop is closed for ten days--the staff is off, and Jimmy (owner) is basking on a Caribbean island. As he should.

It's as messy up here as it can be. We've had 36" of snow so far this year (last year = 24" total!) so I am quite happy the car is high on a lift staying out of trouble.

On a related note, we are acquiring a sweet 2002 Subaru WRX hatchback (227hp!) for a second car for me or my wife. I now have the G37, and a Chrysler T&C minivan. I thought it would be my daily driver as my wife was to be using the minivan, but now she's pointing at the WRX with a grin. Damn her!

I'm going to have fun this Spring!

You're right. I hadn't even figured in that she'll get a taste of performance with the Suby and then she's coming after the TT G37. Yikes!

Call me a soccer dad. Driving the T&C minivan or the hatchback....

I need the exhaust fitted from a small mismatch at the flanges, and the tune installed (being finished as I type), and then fire-up and tested. All relatively small tasks, but the 'testing' is crucial.

Nothing's going to happen for ten days. Hopefully the roads will be dry.

Thanks!

They are just trying to force you to give the roads and weather enough time to dry and clear up They just want you to be safe, Coop!

Back up from the vacation and pause...

OK, so Hector heated and fitted the exhaust flanges, no problem. Gauges are done, ALL figments are finished, oils filled ready to go. But.....

John Visconti, the tuner, could not get the ECU to be recognized by the laptop and UPREV software. It would read the BCM, so the cable is working, but the ECU will only show on the screen AFTER the ignition is turned off. (John said the ECU is the last one to power down?)

John was on the phone with Sam @ GTM for a long time. They even had a screen sharing program so Sam could see the complications. (Sam, please fill in what I am misinforming?)

Jimmy thinks it may be an immobilizerlockout, and he's asked me if I had any concerns when working the connectors in the trans. No, I didn't, but I ma open for any possibility.

So, to any tuners out there: has this ever occurred on your builds?

Jimmy may take it to the dealer, to plug in their computer.

We are all stumped, and paralyzed right now. That's the scoop.

Jim

Jim,
MAC had some initial problems communicating with my AT ECU when they did my tune. They got on the horn with Uprev and worked it out pretty quickly. I don't know the specifics but it was related to the AT. Have your guys call Uprev, I am sure that they can help you out.
