This week Jimmy's going to pull the pan and drop the engine to inspect.

Bail on the 'slight fire damaged' G37 salvage engine. Photos sent: Valve covers looked melted, and the cam actuators were crisp and connectors burnt ($$$!). Definitely NOT a bolt in. That was a HOT fire. Jimmy says warpage would be real. Might go for the trans. More calls are out...

Folks have been curious about the tires I used. Here's my street tire next to the BF Goodrich drag radial. I love the 18" for sidewall on both street and drag. I did get one 1.74" 60' time this round.

what's the tire width and series do you have? 295/35/18?

I'll check this week. They are at The Shop. I think the slicks are 305's.

All your signs are leading to an LS Coop, you know you'd love one mated to a T56!

Yes. That's exactly it.

I'm going to offer them for sale at Atco this weekend. THey will be on The Shop's trailer. Jimmy from The Shop already has his 8.9 second GTR and it hoping to go faster. (Only a 1.61" 60' time on that pass. He expects 8.7's with hook.)

I'm working on pricing and will post a thread in the classified later tonight.

Sam: I'm smiling, but it's not going to happen in the Nissan body. Somewhere in my extended future is Camaro with some oomph.

I'm setting my sights on a runabout car next. Gearbox, not auto. Still thinking.

They had the car on a lift today and the oil pan was off. The oil was NOT clean. I didn't query any more. No surprise. Just wait and see.

I'm sorry to read about that man. It really sucks. Maybe I'll just send an RB30 your way from here and we'll call it a day? I'll pay for the block you pay for shipping haha

mr. cooper, sorry to hear about the car. your build was a good and informative read. this is going to sound bad, but you stated you may start bringing your G back to stock and will be selling off parts. I have interest with your diff and 4:08's. I have a 09 sedan with a 7at. I keep reading that 4:08's are the way to go...

may i be the first in line for your diff?

Thanks Men, for your interests. I'm starting the ball rolling. Tires and rims are listed in the classifieds on G37 and 370Z.

One door closes, and another opens...

So guys,

I've always appreciated the support, advice, and education of this board.

Sadly, I pressed my G too hard and it took a costly toll. I decided to convert the car back to OEM stock, and purchased a fresh VVEL 3.7L engine out of an X model (which converted easily), another auto trans (both from crash wrecks).

I have a bunch of hi-perf parts I am slowly preparing and listing, and so far that project is going well. Here are a few shots of the car after I drove it yesterday as a stocker:

It drives as smooth as the day I purchased it and fell in love with it. I will say, after having 500+ hp on tap, it felt very, ummmmm, polite in comparison.

It's being listed for sale very soon. Someone new is going to be especially pleased. Yes, it's a sad moment in this thread.

********************

Going further, in October I decided I needed something other than my silver T&C minivan to putz around with, and I've long since envied the fun of these cars. Here's my current DD:

I've put an intake kit on it, a Cobb Accessport, a Borla exhaust, and I added the matte black stripes and tinted the windows.

Don't kill me, but I have a smile on my face every time I buzz around.

What else? Next year: late 2000's Mustang SVT. Kenny and Jimmy at The Shop claim it's capable of 700whp with no engine removal. Crazy. We'll see.

I turned 60 last week. The fun is still happening!

+1 What a good guy! I would say you had a great run in the G. Sorry about this run coming to a end but all things must come to an end. There is always a new door to open though. And like BB said with your pushing of the envelope and knowledge I am sure the next run will be a great one as well. GL with your next venture whatever it may be.

Hey Coop.

I hope that you still pop in here every now and then. I still use you as an example of what a modded G37 can do in a straight line when explaining my plans to people here in Aus. Apart from the blown engine part that is (sorry!)

I've read through this and your other threads a couple of times but cant remember seeing anything about your suspension setup when you were pushing it at the strip. What were you running? Coils? Sways? Tower brace?

Getting the power to the ground once I am running 450-550hp with my TT kit will be a serious issue soon. Obviously for straight line acceleration, hard front/soft rear is the way to go, so I am currently thinking coils all round (not sure of brand yet), dampening set pretty soft at the rear and relatively hard at the front, front sway bar and front strut tower bar to harden it up a little more. I want to keep my stock rims so 275's on the rear will be the widest I can go

Obviously going crazy hard at the front and super soft at the rear will produce ridiculous understeer so it will be a bit of a balancing act to keep the car out of the trees on the corners whilst gaining maximum traction under power in a straight line.

Seeing as you have quiet a bit of straight line track experience I'd love to hear your input.

Cheers
Al

Hi Al,

Thanks for the props and your input. A valid question.

Sadly, I must report that I did only ONE thing to my OEM suspension, and I don't think it made much difference. I added a rear adjustable camber link.

What I really wished for was a method to adjust the castor (?), so when the car squats off the line the pattern on the rear wheels stays flat. They tend to splay out, and the wear pattern on the DR tires showed that. The other link adjusts the toe-in, and we set it at neutral. Sure didn't hurt.

What you are suggesting would do a good thing. I never made it that far.

I did a partial disassembly of the engine a couple of weeks ago. The oil pump was completely intact and there were no plastic or nylon parts, which someone mentioned might have been the culprit. I don't know if the OEM pump has nylon gears or such, but mine was all steel. Nismo pumps are supposed to cost about $200? I would certainly suggest that.

#1 cyl rod bearing was toasted. Crank and rod all scored up there.

I'm going to take out the usable parts and part them out: rods, pistons, studs, heads, block, etc. Be done with it.

I have the 5AT trans sitting on the floor with the torque converter, untouched. I keep promising to contact Pat at 'Level 10' to see about looking at it, so I can resell with no disappointments.

The 4.08 diff and the entire GTM Stg2 kit have been sold and delivered to a new buyer. He'll be along soon with plenty of questions...!

The car is for sale locally with 34k miles on it. Absolutely no mention of what I accomplished or that it had an engine replacement. No added value in that conversation.

Staying posted.

Coop
