New build: GTM TT Stg-II • '08 Infiniti G37 5-spd auto • The Shop CT
This has been a hard weekend, emotionally. Truth is, the car was running SO well and SO smooth, that it's a damn shame I tried chasing my tail for that elusive ten-second time card. I didn't need that, I wanted that. Human nature: Always wanting more.
LOL! All or nothing... = Nothing. This outing.
I reviewed my in car vids, and I was WELL over the 7500 redline often. I have no one to fault.
One thing I've learned on these street drag nights is clear: If you want a consistent ten-second car with a moderate amount of modifications, going American Muscle V8's will get you there. Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers all make the grade. Nothing is impervious, but Subaru's and Infiniti's smaller motors aren't in this league. GTR's can do this easily, but they are costly.
Don't fit a square peg in a round hole. However, it's great to see how strong the VHR motors can be, yet they have a breaking point when REALLY pressed.
Anyway, I'm down but not completely out. I'll keep you posted. Of course I'll disassemble the engine, however, the cost of a teardown, rebuild, replacement, stock pistons, gaskets, labor, etc will EASILY equal what a low mileage, untouched, dependable salvage engine will cost. I may have some good parts in there to sell. We'll see.

Sorry to here that the motor is toast Coop our built motors were done around the same time last year.
How much higher than the 7500rpm redline were you revving the engine to ?
8000 rpm indicated. I'm not convinced the RPM did all the damage. The power was dropping and coming on like a toggle switch through the ranges. It's a fuel or electronic problem. VERY frustrating, and this is why I kept searching for the elusive 'clean' pass.
The motors are strong. Good luck if you go to Atco on the 22nd.

I have mine set to 7800 rpm I have also seen older VQ's rev to 8000 rpm with the same oil pump we have in our car. It really sucks that something in the fuel system or electronic would do this.
I wont be making it to Atco on the 22 I broke a input shaft inside the transmission power shifting with the OS Giken triple Disc I have in the car.

Damn sorry Cliff.
Was looking to see what times you could pull !!
Guys, thanks for the well wishes. I'm coming to grips.
We're waiting for word on a package deal for engine and tranny from a fire damaged 2008 with low miles.
More people die on the way DOWN from Mt Everest than the climb up. I needed to abort before I reached my summit. I didn't listen to my Sherpa.
LOL!
Carry on.

Thanks for this. Not sure how complicated mating the later 7-speed with the 5 speed would be. Although they would physically fit, the trans and engine ECU marriages and controls may be different?

You could always be the first G37 to switch over to a six speed manual
