Exclamation Back to the dyno....

Last April:


Yesterday:


We'd made a few changes (Exhaust, Tune/tuner, Boost controller) from our initial build. Went to the track twice, and came away satisfied, but not real pleased.

Truth is, the stooopid HKS EVC-S controller manual is indecipherable and led them to stop 'tuning' because it was boosting off the charts. I did some searching, found out how poorly translated the default settings were, and we changed them. (The distributor was clueless.)

I asked to return to the dyno to verify. Now, John Visconti (V-Tune) made numerous changes to the map and was able to achieve these numbers with relatively safe AFR's (Relative is a keyword. AFR's aren't the only thing to be cautious about at this level.) 12-13 lbs boost. 93oct (w/10% ethanol here in the NE)

Also glad to see the ARK Grip exhaust is WELL up to the job, and quieter. They tell me they tried to run it in 3rd and it poured smoke off the tires--low reading. Just too much!

Anyway, what you see is a pull in full-out KILL mode--suitable for a track run in April or March. 11.5's here I come....

Fortunately the EVC-S has a second programmable mode, and that lower number is how it came into the shop, and how I'm driving it around.

Yup: Stock block. Haters gonna hate!

We'll be ready in March for a track day at the strip.

Nice project! I'm looking at doing the same but with a 7speed since I have an 09. Can I ask what the approx cost of the transmission build was?

Jesus...I can't get over how that sounds. That is exactly the sound I'm looking for. Course I don't think I'm gonna go the rout of FI. Then again one can never tell what the future holds.

Nice job!

looking good, because of you I dont have to go to the track to see what the potential is - THANKS! I followed Sams advise and went with the simpler is better approach when it came to boost controllers. I am happy to see you figured it out though, great numbers and smooth curve too.

You're welcome. You might poke Sam or Mike on this. I've never had ONE 'attaboy' in this thread or otherwise, although every vid I've posted has the GTM moniker. Quickest GTM G37 in the nation, and never acknowledged.

Yeah, after we figured it out, as expected, HKS EVC-S delivers a really good product.

What did you decide?

I purchased a cheap 100 dollar blitz controller that does everything I need it too. My first parts lists to Sam included 2600 worth of gauges, but after talking to him I followed his advice with the simple is better idea. I use 4 settings on the blitz easily switched to with one click. I have an over boost warning and auto adjustment that I use to dial in spring pressure, 8lbs, 10lbs, 12lbs, scramble boost (which i don’t even use), and frequently keep it on peak hold so i can see with a glance the psi after each run. On the street, not having to many buttons better prepares you for the "insert fast car here" pulling up and trying to smoke you. IMO most people who opt for the crazy controller\gauges setup don’t really even fully understand half the s**t it does anyway. I have had 2 friends get the EVC and have nothing but issues, most likely because they needed to RTFM. (As you said probably in Chinese)

You got mad props from me getting 11's on the 1/4 , I am not a drag racer but I know how difficult it can be. Congrats on the power, the tune, and so far the reliability of the install. Hail COOp meister!

Where did you get a $100 Blitz boost controller? Nothing on their site remotely close.

Something used?

i may have been thinking of the install labor price, lol

i have the Blitz Dual-SBC Type R Electronic Boost Controller, not sure how much it costs but it was way cheaper than the EVC or full out color monitor thing I oringinally picked out.

Just goes to show you the expense of doing a turbo is so severe it makes you forget about items less than 1k. I have to look at my bill again
