17" tires for autocross

My apologies if this has been covered before, but I've gone over 10 pages of threads and it seems like most people are concerned with 18"-20" wheels.

I partially bought my 2013 G37 Journey for autocross and I'd like to get a second set of wheels to mount 200 treadwear tires for autocross days. OEM tire size is 225/55-R17 but none of the performance tires come in that size.

I want to stay in Street class, so that limits what I can do with tires/wheels. The parameters I am working under:

* Want to stay at 17" for tire cost and performance reasons
* I have to keep the factory 7.5" wheel width
* Offset can only deviate 7mm either way from the stock 45 mm

The tires sizes that seem close to stock are:

225/45, 235/40, 235/45, 245/40, 245/45, and 255/40.

I asked Tire Rack but all they'd say is "these sizes aren't recommended for your vehicle and may hurt performance."

It seems like there has to be someone running 200TW on their G37 and has figured out a good size...

Thanks,

Mark

That’s a really tough ask. 7.5” wide wheels are pretty limited in performance tire sizes that will work for a big car like the G.

Not sure if the rules or your budget allows for it but I would consider a move up to a set OEM Sedan Sport wheels. They’re 18x7.5 front and 18x8.5 rear. You could keep the staggered set up or go squared and run 245/45r18’s all around.

I took a look at running the staggered 18s of the Sport or 245/45R18.

It looks like 245/45R18 works for the Potenza RE-71R. I was interested in the Falken RT660 too but that looks like a no go.

I hear you, I just had the same issues myself trying to run a square 18x8.5 set up for track days. The lack of tire availability was brutal. RT660 and RS4’s were my option as well but unavailable. Re71s will work well for your use.
