Tire Size for '09 G37X
Tire Size for '09 G37X
Hey all
Just got new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires for my X, in the stock size - 225/55/17. Just wondering if anyone is running the same setup. Do the tires look odd to anyone? The side wall looks really, really thick, thicker than the OE tire. I know 55 series tires aren't exactly low profile, but they look like offroad tires right now!
Does anyone have a lower profile on the stock 17" rims? I asked the place I bought them from to get me 225/50/17, but they said the size change may throw off the speedometer.
I did a search on this but didn't come up with any useful hits.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On this site you can compare the widths and diameters side by side. Put in the 225/55-17 on the left side and the 225/50-17 on the right. Don't worry too much with the wheel width and offset, although the stock is going to be 7.5". Just use an offset of 0 for both, for comparison sake.

You will see the 50 will make for a shorter sidewall, but the tire will overall be .9 inches smaller. That may look odd, and the speedo will be about 2 MPH off. Plus, those smaller tires will turn about 25 more RPM's per mile, meaning they could wear out sooner.
Maybe the visual you're seeing is just from the thicker tread. The new tires are actually slightly taller than your old, worn tires.
I'd love to have those tires on my stock 17" '09 G sedan as they are wonderfully rated tires, but fear the look of just what you're describing. That's why I'm shopping for some 18's or 19'.
The 19" wheel would use a tire that's 245/40-19, almost the same exact diameter as the 225/55-17.
