Help Can’t decide if I should get drilled/slotted rotors with ceramic pads or not
Can’t decide if I should get drilled/slotted rotors with ceramic pads or not
Hey guys, the title says it all.
Recently, bought a new ‘09 G37xS sedan and I was planning to change my breaks since the previous owner didn’t really pay attention to the brake rotor and brake pad cover (rusty).
So the plan was to change all four of them from stock to the “performance brakes” until I saw SOME people saying that, from their experience, they’re only good if I drag race, which I don’t, and they wear out quicker than the others. I drive it pretty much daily, from work to home or sometimes go to chill with friends.
The question is should I get the drilled/slotted brakes with ceramic pads or just get simple ones just like the stock ?
(personally, I love how the performance ones look and willing to pay for them)

Good quality ones will not wear out much faster than regular rotors. Stoptech sells their z23 kit that has CD slotted rotors, stoptech evolution pads, and new hardware for both front and rear for under 450
Centric kit from Rock auto. They're ceramic pads and blank rotors - work just fine. Drilled and slotted is for aesthetics if you aren't doing performance driving. Again, Rockauto has the friendliest prices last I looked.
I found one from a site called Autoshack and their prices are very good. For example, for 8 ceramic pads and 4 drilled/slotted rotors, they’re charging 196$ and it’s in Canada

Get yourself the "sport" rotors and Akebono calipers.
Can't believe they can sell an underbreaked car with those ****y base brakes.
Slots will eat any pad faster than just drilled or plain rotors.
You don't need them unless you break hard enough to glaze the pads. Like on the track.
I went for drilled only on my street machine
Order black rotors, or paint with high temp paint before install. Otherwise the hats and edges will rust almost instantly.
Braided hoses make a difference at the pedal
Keep in mind you need at least 18 in rims and may need spacers to clear the bigger rotors and caliper

I installed a full set of DBA 4000 Series Drilled and Slotted rotors with Hawk HPS 5.0 pads about 2 years ago. Overkill? Probably. But they do look good. Not a single problem and they have saved my *** on more than one occasion with the jackass drivers I have in my area.
Ultimately, it is your car. Get what you want (within your budget) and drive happy.

i like the appearance of slotted rotors. not a fan of the look of drilled rotors. and really not a fan of both slotted and drilled rotors its a bit much. i did slotted rotors on my g35 with brembos. opted not to on the g37 just to save a few bucks lol
Thanks a lot for the descriptive comment. I’ll take a note

This is the DIY thread, read the whole thing. There's a couple differences in bolt sizes from the 370Z install guide, torque settings are also very important. I used the powerstop Z26 kit from RockAuto... ~$800 in parts w/o stainless brake lines or core return.

Make sure you get 18 or 19in rims that clear the bbks. Even on OEM wheels, the fronts clear by just 3mm.
https://www.myg37.com/forums/brakes-...templates.html you can print out this template and use to check fitment before you buy.
I love the big brakes, definitely a necessity if you track the car. Stopping distance is massively improved (comparison done on Pilot Super Sports, the OEM Dunlopp all seasons are garbage and theres no improvement on those tires.)
I'd also consider a rear sway bar from a RWD sport model, or Hotchkiss to reduce understeer.

I've been very happy with my Centric rotors (12042100, 12042101) and Akebono pads (ASP1346, ASP1347). I installed these back in April 2018. Only 15k miles put on them but no issues since. Still need to get around to installing my Z1 SS lines. I don't track the car and the OEM brakes before I replaced them lasted a very long time so I saw no need to spend a lot on upgrading them.
Base brakes* work perfectly fine....but the BBK setup just looks that much better. Admittedly, I have a set in my garage I have to get powder coated and they'll be going on. I don't do a lick of performance or competitive driving in the G.

09 X, I put Brembo rotors and pads on the fronts. Hate em, so much... They squeal, make noises, and stop abruptly on final stop. I put them on in January, warrantied my pads cause squealing in May, and now have a warped rotor. Never driven on the track, it's my daily. Would go BBK but y winters are on 17"s. Anyone have the "Perfect setup" for the small brakes? I will not be skimping out.
