G37x Power Stop Drilled / Slotted Rotors & Ceramic Pads Review
So for my first official mod other than some of the goodies from the DIY lab, I decided to upgrade the brakes for my 2010 G37x. I went with Power Stop K114 kit that I purchased through RockAuto. The kit includes:
12.58" Front & 12.13" Rear Silver Zinc Plated Cross-Drilled And Slotted Rotors w/Z16 Ceramic Scorched Pads
First off the rotors look fantastic and of good quality. I've had a number of brake upgrades on previous cars and for the price this seems to be a great value. It took roughly 2 hours to remove the old hardware and install the new rotors/pads and went with a brake flush to keep the system in good shape. After install I wasnt imediatly impressed with the performance but after properly breaking in the pads the grip feels great. I spent some time on some windy roads last weekend and really put the brakes to the test and didnt have any kind of fade after 1 hour of "spirited driving"
.
After two weeks of having these brakes I'm thus far very happy with the decision and the improved braking performance over the stock rotos and pads. Brake dust hasnt been an issue at all and I havent had any squeaks or rubbing sounds coming from the pads that I know some people have with brake upgrades. Anyways just figured I'd share my thoughts, opinions and some pictures since I wasnt able to find anything on the site regarding this upgrade kit.

Nice upgrade! I have always done baer slotted and drilled rotors on my trucks. My experience has been the same, you do not notice at first but all of a sudden you are stopped 20 ft before the stop line. Brake fade is where these add value. Towing and hauling, these held their weight in gold. I still need to dig in on this upgrade for the G.
Had the same pads and rotors on my G37x Sedan
Got the same set up as my ride. Hate to tell ya, but you pay for what you get. Warped and inferior stopping power after less than 10,000 miles on them. I had Stillen Crossdrilled/slotted and StopTech Crossdrilled/slotted rotors before these rotors. Both the Stillen and StopTech was fine after 20,000 miles on them. Of course I changed the pads and rotors together. Had Ceramic pads on the Stillen and StopTech.
The PowerStop rotors should be fine with regular daily driving and nothing too rough. If your daily driving is hard on your brakes, you might want to skip theses. Most of my daily driving includes plenty of off ramp stops during rush hour (60+ mph to stop frequently). Plenty of city driving (20 to 30 mph stop and go. And also tons of 80+ mph slow downs. Most people drive 80+ mph on my local Highway and are pretty aggressive drivers. So its not uncommon for me to be doing 80 mph and having to slow down suddenly to 30 mph because of people slowing down too fast while changing lanes or waiting until last minute to get to an exit and cut in front of me.). So I do not track my car nor do I drive aggressively. Due to my daily driving I have to get aftermarket rotors and brakes for the past 3 cars I own. The stock brake pads/rotors warped after only 3000 miles after I bought the car.
So for the average driver that wants something flashy behind the wheels, these are perfect. But if you are looking for long term (relatively) brake pad/rotor combos that will last you with spirited driving, look else where. Just my 2 cents!
