Just bought some akebono calipers - I read a bunch off threads & would like some info from members please.




DIY - read to fold & flap dust shield for brakes & don’t cut it

disconnect the battery?

Do I need to bleed brakes after? Read Thru those threads too & best bleed kit ?

should I change brake fluid too?

what rotors do u recommend- I read eBay rotors & read reviews & peeps talked about cheap rotors & warped quickly

Honestly it doesn't really matter, but flap and fold may be better, just make sure the flaps don't interfere with the rotor

Yes, you will have to bleed the new caliper, might as well flush the fluid... the Motive power bleed is very helpful if you work alone, otherwise just get somone to pump the brake, but either way you will need some hose from Home Depot and a receptacle to collect the old fluid in


I don't have experience with ebay rotors, but Centric "premium" rotors are popular and they make Stoptech ones too if you want slots or cross drilled but really anything with an E coating (i.e. not just paint) will ususalyl be very durable...tbh rotors don't really warp under normal conditions, usually people just don't bed in there pads and they get uneven deposits on the rotors which causes juddering ...you can always get super cheap rotors and spray paint the hubs with high heat paint especially if you are in a mild climate its a viable option if youre trying to save some money...if you're feeling spendy Z1 makes really nice 2 piece rotors which are a bargain for 2 piece rotors

Another tip to add to the top comment when bleeding the brakes first bleed the outer valve the one one with the Akebono sticker then bleed the inner. Since their is two bleeder valves on the calipers.

And the brake bleed sequence Per fsm~passenger rear, driver front, driver rear, then lastly passenger front. X2 on just having a willing helper to press the brakes down as you bleed. The power bleeders are nice & work well but you can do the same thing for free and not much time w/ a helper (might bribe them w/a couple beers). And remember the bleeder screws are just a snug down, don't crank on those.

shorter banjo bolts but also saw someone use 1/4 crush nut washers I beleive to
shorten bolt length

i put anti seize on rotor

bleed brakes at the end

What can i do for spare tire to fit new akebonos
