Rear shocks worn to metal / inner wheel rub?

I recently went to install some spacers and noticed the rear shocks were worn down to the metal possibly from rubbing the inside of the wheel or tire. I have a 2008 G37s coupe, all stock with the oem sport wheels and 245 tires. I have noticed the car seems a little extra bouncy on uneven or wavy roads. I assume the shocks are just blown and already ordered tokico / eibachs, but just want to be sure there isn' t a bigger problem. Any ideas?

245 too wide for stock wheel. Spacer will cure that.

Did you buy the car used? The 245s on stock wheels won't do that, looks like someone was running aggressive offset wheels &/or wide tires.

Normal

Guys to me this is normal. Debris somehow fly up rubbing the paint in that area off.
My completly stock ipl shocks have this and my stock nismo suspension rear shocks have this.
Nismo with 36k miles and ipl with 33k.
When i installed my swift lowering springs i found this and thought same thing. I touched the area with touchup to see if it were rubbing and theres nothing

stock tires are 245.

*edit* 245 in rear is stock, which is where this issue is occurring.

Yeah, I haven't kept stock dampers long enough I suppose, lol. Probably what IPL said, that's an area where a lot of motion is occurring and regular debris blasting against those shocks probably would take a toll.

Yeah an 08 with ~80k miles, I am sure new ones are in order anyways. I am gonna hope you are guys are right, maybe its just from years of debris. I just have never seen this sort of wear on the shocks of previous cars.

I thought you had an xS for some reason.

Im on bc coilovers now almost 1k miles and no rubbing.
This is with an 11inch rear wheel and 265 35 19

1k miles isnt alot but you would know if it were rubbing or even close.
Im with the op and new suspension though. Will be nice upgrade

I had it on my IPL shocks too. Not sure HOW it gets there but could be getting sand blasted.

Don't have it with the Aragostas but I have spacers.

Yup, I saw the same thing on my car, which was completely stock at the time when I was putting on aftermarket wheels. I was puzzled, too. I think PNW_IPL is correct with his explanation.
