Rear fender liner trimmed and side keeps popping out

Can you guys give me a good suggestion to get this fixed?

I dropped my car and trimmed the rear fender liner to avoid the rubbing issue. Then the side of the rear bumper keeps popping out. Did I trim too much? I am planning to use double side 3M tape and apply it between the fender and the body so that it could hold in place. However, I am also worried that it will leave a gap and the adhesive tape will catch dusts that might become annoying to clean.

Does anyone else dealt with this problem before? How did you guys fix it?

Do you have a picture of what you trimmed? Hopefully it can be fixed w/out much trouble.

Yeah of course!

First, my car was a lower from the beginning but I raised it up a bit before the winter season.
If you put your finger underneath the red area on the picture, there is a fender liner and I pretty much trimmed the whole red area.
Also the bolt area where the side keeps the bumper in place.

Ah! Now I remember that I searched about this before I shaved off the rear bracket. It does mention that Weiboy used the 3m double tape as well.

But still worried about the gap and dusts collecting on the adhesive....

It looks like that's about all you could do at this point, you could always get a touch up pen w/ your car paint code and run the paint along the small strip of adhesive to basically seal it from dust, or if you can get a real thin bead of black silicone in there after you get it taped, just a real thin bead to seal the tape a bit better. That tape is pretty thin so it shouldn't leave much gap FWIW.

OLPEMI, what was your final fix?

I just put new rims/tires on my G37 and have the rubbing issue with the rear bumper bracket. Just wanted to find out what your final remedy was for this issue? Thanks

I also need to trim my fender liner/bracket. I'm not sure I'm rubbing on the bracket itself, however. My tires don't show the kind of wear I would expect to see from rubbing against something metal. I'm wondering if I'm only rubbing on that soft liner in there? I plan to jack the car up this weekend and take a look to find out for sure. Seeing posts like this from the OP makes me very hesitant to shave the bracket.

you can shave a lot of liner and the metal portion (fender side of the bracket) and the plastic portion (bumper side of the bracket - bottom). I actually did a bumper swap over the weekend and put a new AK v2 diffuser on. I thought while I was at it, why not cut the fender liner portion that comes and edge and also shave the bracket. It definitely was easier to do with the car on jacks...wheels off, including the rear bumper (not necessary at all, but gives you a better vantage point imo).

This is all in prep for some GTR cba 20's I'm having PC'd and then put on next week. I've ran 20's before (vossen) but less aggressive offset and I wanted to run 285's out back like I always have. I'm only moderately lowered as well (swift + konis) so I have to factor that in compared to guys shaving that entire bracket off.

Tip: if you're currently rubbing, apply some blue painters tape to your inner fenders..load up the car with a couple friends and see where the tire contacts. Then zero in on those places.
