Wheel spacers/lower offset wheels lowers spring rate?

I came across several articles discussing how widening a car's track decreases the effective spring rate. I haven't seen this discussed here, so wanted to get yall's feedback.

This sparked my attention because of my experience with lowering on swift springs. I lowered my car a few months ago, and as expected, the ride was much firmer. About two months later, I added 20mm H&R spacers since the wheel tuck looked like hell with my 50 offset 19x8.5 rims. Anyway, shortly after adding the spacers, it felt like the ride wasn't as stiff and the engine splash guard didn't scrape over bumps as easily. I just thought that the springs were settling and softening up because of use. After stumbling upon these articles about spring rate and track width, I think this explains why the car is a bit less firm. The nearly two inches of extra overall of track width lowered the spring rate a bit and made the ride slightly less stiff.

Am I way off, or does this sound right?

Bump! 200 views and no one telling me I'm crazy about a wider track causing the spring rate to decrease.
