Wheel offset/suspension rubbing

Hi guys, I just picked up my 2009 Infiniti G37x coupe today. I'm starting to consider an upgrade from the stock 18 inch wheels as well as lowering it about 1.5 inches.

My main concern is, will VMR V701 19x8.5 with +35mm offset fit flush with no rubbing after I drop it? Will I need spacers?

Also if anyone has any recommendations for springs, shocks, wheels or spacers (if needed) I'd be glad to hear it.

Thanks

Please excuse my noobness

Welcome to the site, congrats on your new X. Those VMRs are a nice wheel, should look really good on your G. Running 245/40/19s will be fine as far as clearance. I'd wait until you lower it, then decide if you want a small spacer to flush it out. Should be pretty flush, your stock rims are +45 offset so you'll be at least 10mm further out and probably another 6mm out since I think your OEM rims are 7.5" wide.
Swift lowering springs seem to get the most recommendations but not sure about coupe applications, it's mainly the sedans that run them. Tanabe has AWD coupe springs and I believe Eibach also has some and both are mild drops, in the 1.2 inch range. You should also consider F&R camber kits when you drop it too, SPC is the most common camber setup. Some other nice wheels to consider would be SSRs, here's their lineup

For a smaller budget the Niche wheels are also worth a look
TreadDepot.com: Niche Custom Wheels
As are the Konigs

Have fun w/ your search!

Thank you for the feedback. I'm not sure if the wheels are 7.5 or 8", but I agree with waiting until I see how it looks before getting spacers. I'll look into the springs and see what I can dig up. Aside from the camber kit, what shocks would you recommend? I'm looking to keep a decent ride, just with a nice drop. Also, what are the names of the eibach or tanabe springs you're referring to?

Thanks again for the feedback

I was under the impression the stock coupe 18" wheels were 18x8 +43 all around. Right now I have 20mm front and 25mm rear spacers which make my wheels:

Front: 18x8 +23
Rear: 18x8 +18

Even with this setup, I would not call it aggressive or flush. I am lowered on Eibach Pro-Kit and I do not have any rubbing. Overall it looks good, but when I buy aftermarket wheels I will get offsets more aggressive than these to further fill out the wheel well.

How low is the drop with the Eibach pro-kit? Is the ride noticeably stiffer? Also what's your toe and camber setup like?

The ride is a bit more firm, but it isn't jarring or unsettling. My previous car was lowered with Eibach springs and the ride was pretty rough. This is not the case with the G37 though. The car handles much better with the lower and wider stance. The car doesn't feel like a boat anymore and it feels very planted to the road. The better handling makes the car much more fun to drive and the lower look makes the car much better on the eye. I would say the positives definitely outweigh any negatives - not that I can really think of any. My car still makes it over speed bumps, curbs, etc. without any scrapping.

Wow that thing is clean! Did you install aftermarket shocks when you did your eibachs?
I'm guessing you got an alignment after? Any camber kits?

Thanks! There really isn't a performance aftermarket shock/strut option for the AWD guys. I wouldn't worry about this too much though because these springs were engineered to work with the stock dampers - this can be verified on their website. I have SPC front and rear camber kits installed. You will see many that say you can get away without the front, but it's in your best interest to ignore them and buy the front kit as well. It will be cheaper to buy the kit and have it installed the first time then to go back and put it on when you realize you also need to replace your tires from premature wear. The shop that put my springs on didn't even charge me for the install on the front camber kit since it is so simple to do while you are installing the springs. I have also had 2 alignments done. One after install to make sure the car was safe to drive and the tires wouldn't get ruined, and another about a month after to correct for the springs settling. Yes, the alignment was off a month later - by a lot. The Eibach springs on this model definitely settle. After install I was at about 27" all around and now I am currently at about 26.5-26.75".

My advice is do it right, do it once.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

Thanks man! You helped a lot. I was going to do my springs, camber kit, and 19" wheels by myself then take it to a shop to get an alignment. Is the SPC camber kit the one that replaces the control arm?

Here you go, this is the complete F&R kit, and TH motorsports is a great site vendor here.
Combo Packages 2 Rear Camber Arms w/ Toe Bolts + 2 Front Adjustable A-Arms (Complete set for whole car front and rear) INFINITI G37
There's DIY install threads in the DIY section, if you can't find them let me know.
