Hey whats up people, hope you all doing good. ok so recently i painted my calipers with clear coat on top. when i painted my calipers i let them dry for one day before driving the car. they looked great up till today when i was washing my car. There was seems to brake dust on the caliper as well as on the wheel itself. i sprayed some wheels dust cleaner on calipers but the dust is not coming off. I tired everything to get it off but have no luck. i seems like the dust bond with the paint wtf? so for those you painted their calipers how bad are your calipers or if you guys using different kind of brake pads to reduce brake dust. Rear calipers looks great but the front seems to look like **** and its only been a week . help help help!!!!

 

Did you cure the paint? I used VHT caliper paint and soon after spraying I drove my G all over doing a lot of heavy braking to heat the calipers, did it for about 20 minutes. Paint has been on 2 years now w/ no issues.

 

i painted my calipers. i used the caliper clear after i painted them.

i let them dry over night.

don't seem to have the problem you have. every time i clean them, they look great.

what did you use to clean them? normal soap and water pretty much do the trick, especially if you used caliper paint/clear. they have a certain dust resistance to them.

maybe whatever you used to clean the calipers, messed up the clear? idk.

 

I might have to repaint the caliper. I didn't use vht instead I used napa custom color single stage with clear.

 

I used the regular clear that's on the DIY. maybe not enough clear on them. I'm going to repaint paint them soon

 

so.....you might have used the incorrect paint.

calipers heat up. may have softened the paint and then had the dust stick/mix with the paint darkening them.

you may want to redo them with either VHT or duplicolor high heat. make sure you use the appropriate high heat clear after. caliper paint works best due to then having that "dust resistance".


i would think that's your problem right there.

as far as your fronts looking darker than your rears, the rears don't heat up half as much as the fronts do. the rears may be ok because of this.

do you know any place where I can buy custom high heat paints? I know vht doesn't have the color I want

 

i think i purchased mine at autozone. just a rattle can. idk what color you want, but they had about 8 or 9 colors. if you want something really custom, powder coating is the way to go....but you have to have someone do that for you.

make sure you get a can of the caliper cleaner as well and clean them good before you repaint them. also, scuff the paint with either a green scotchbrite pad or some 400 grit sand paper.
