BC Racing BR-Type too stiff?

Anyone running BC's on a G37 and find them simply too stiff? 2008 S-coupe with V-02 kit, preload has been set as per BC tutorials and others. Rear damping is set to 30 (softest) and front is 10. I've had multiple people take a look for any issues with the installation and it checks out. On semi-smooth roads, no issue. Get any bumps or transitions and they can be very harsh. Problem primarily seems to be the rear. I also have Hotchkis sway bars set to middle setting in rear.

Took a ride in a G35 sedan with BC BR-Types (D-17) and it was night and day. Where my car would hop, his ate the bumps (Shocks are set at 10/10). The system seemed to work great over the same roads. He checked my setup as well and didn't find any issues. When driving my car he noted how harsh it was as well.

So, V-02 is 12k/10k and his D-17 is 10k/8k. Wheelbase of both vehicles are the same. Coupe is just a tad over 200lbs heavier.....Is it possible to use 10k/8k springs on the V-02? Anyone else experience this problem and resolve it?

Not sure what the BC tutorials tell you, but set your preload to 0. That will make it absorb bumps a bit better. I run 0 preload all around on my stance coilovers. You don't want to be preloading progressive springs if you want comfort.

The information you are referring to is the dampening of the shock, not the preload of the spring for installation, especially in the rear.

The information you are referring to is the damping of the shocks, not dampening.

The "preload" of the spring is not only used for "installation" and it can also be adjusted independently from damping. Preload adjustments can be made in order to modify the handling dynamics of the suspension.

Per instructions, when the suspension has no load (off ground, no shock connected) you raise the rear lower link until you can no longer turn the spring. Then, raise it up an additional 10mm to set proper preload and attach the shock.

If removing the preload from the rear springs is the answer then that's fine. I'm not sure a simple 10mm change is going to have that much effect with how stiff the ride currently is, progressive rates or not.

Right now I have the rear at appx a .5" drop which means removing preload would probably not result in any major issues. If the vehicle was 1"+ lower then removing preload could result in a loose spring at full suspension travel, correct? I'll have to think about that more...it's too early

I am not sure where people get their info on the weight difference between a coupe and sedan

Your springs won't go anywhere. Just remove those additional 10mm and see if your ride improves...

As previously stated I was comparing the '04 sedan and '08 coupe. I thought that was clear, maybe not...
