VDC, SLIP, Brake Light...and what dealer has to say

Car: 2008 Infiniti G37 Sport - 34,489 MILES
Issue: VDC, Slip, Brake Light turn on. Also Rust on the trunk.
Situation: Took it to the dealer and here is a summary of the events:

Told dealer which lights came on. He checked the brake fluid and said most likely it was time to replace pads (Not covered under warranty).

In regards to the rust on the trunk; dealership said it was due to the alignment of the trunk causing paint to scratch off and will need to be repainted and realigned (covered under warranty).

After a few hours here is what the dealer recommended along with the cost in Canadian Dollars:

Replace front/rear pads and rotors: $1100
-The worn out brakes caused fluid level to go down and it turns on dash lights.

New Tires:
-New rear tires $950

Replace Air Filters: $80.00

New Steering Fluid (they found it to be dirty and contaminated): $139.95

Total recommended changes cost: $2710

I think I will replace the pads and filter myself and get a second opinion on the rotors. Not sure about the steering fluid. What do you guys think?

$950 for rear tires is ridiculous. $80 for air filters is ridiculous. See if you can get the rotors machined not at the dealer. Pads can be changed easily yourself.

for 900 dollars for rear times, you better be getting some crazy street legal F1 tires that never wear out. 900-1100 is the range for a brand new set of 4 of s drives or something. For 1100 dollars you could buy 2 piece front, some nice stoptech backs, and a all 8 pads (okay may more like 1400 but if your paying 1100 already, you may as well do it.

I agree, I am thinking of replacing the pads myself.
The car is a daily driver so I was thinking Wagner Thermo Quiet should be good.

oh my God - what a huge ripoff. I was going to replace my front pads (hawk ceramics) and rotors (Centric) for like 350 from my dealer. 230 for parts, 110 for labor. You can t great tires for 700 or all the way around form tirerack. You can do air filters for 20 or so, Steering fluid for like 40-50 tops? They are crazy.
