Well I found out that the TPMS sensors i bought will not sync to my car. Apparently there was a 2010.5 upgrade to the sensors.

 

Wow, really? I'd really like a confirmation of this since I just got a 2011 and I'm considering changing the wheels.

 

I found out the hard way: ITB10-050

 

Why would they do that???

 

Every time they change the TPMS sensors they "lock out" the independent shops for a while. My shop told me the Nissan/Infiniti sensors are among the most expensive. If the auto manufactures had the consumer at heart all TMPS systems would give a dashboard readout of actual pressure and temps so the "average owner" doesn't have to go to the dealer and pay to find the reason for the light going on, and they would standardize the tools used to set them. In addition Infiniti didn't include a switch, real easy with the touch screen, to switch summer and winter sensors. Both the Lexus and Infiniti service writers told me almost all of their customers who use winter tires don't use TPMS because of the expense and complexity, so the whole purpose of TPMS is defeated because of the strategy of profit over consumer safety (unless required by law).

 

Yeah and now i'm out paying for 4 more tpms sensors at 80 - 90 dollars a pop.

 

oh well. The TPMS light doesnt bother me all that much. If you check your pressures regularly should be a big deal

Does this mean that the local tire shop can't order the updated sensors? Or are they currently exclusive to the dealers?

 

ehh, just don't get 'em.

This is just another way of Nissan trying to find a way for people not to save money and buy directly from the factory.

 

yes there are aftermarket sensors that will work for mid 2010-2011 according to my shop. However... they were almost as expensive as the OEM sensors and were "out of stock" at the supplier (e.g. likely not available yet)

 

Back the black electrical tape piece so I'm not going crazy looking at that damn light.

 

Yup, we found recently there was a mid model year change with the sensors. Cars built before March 2010 use a different one vs after March 2010.
