TPMS and tire rotations

OK, maybe I missed this, but I could not find the answer.

My dealer tells me that whenever the tires are rotated or when they are taken off the car to be balanced and then put back in a different position on the car, the TPMS must be completely reset.

If so, this is lunancy. Can anyone shed light on this?

I do this myself and don't want to take the car in to the dealer every time I rotate the tires.

It is true as far as I can tell. It makes no sense to me either. On our 335i, you just go to TPMS Reset on the signal stalk and hold it in about 10 seconds.

As long as they are oem and not replacements no need for a reset.

however if you had an FX where it tells you the pressures in each tire then you would need a reset as the front drivers tire is not there any longer.
