Tpms

Do I *need* these sensors? What's wrong with just getting my Vossen's and not using sensors? I actually check my air pressure frequently, I just can't seem to justify the cost of another set of sensors.

Your car will function exactly fine without them, you will just have an indicator light on your dash all the time with no way to make it go off. Why can't you use the TPMS from your OEM wheels? There is an adapter to make them fit aftermarket wheels.

Use existing sensors but buy a set of aftermarket brackets/adapters from Vossen to fit them, if Vossen have the brackets.

damn I completely forgot to take this into consideration when ordering wheels.

If the wheels come mounted/balanced and ready to swap, how hard would it be to put the OEM TPMS onto the new wheels? Need to be remounted and balanced???

The light would be hellannoying - and since my stocks are going to be wearing Blizzak's next fall and serving as "winter tires", maybe I could just keep using the tpms back and forth with or without the bracket as needed... (?)

I know that light on my dash is gonna drive me nuts!

Anyone know if Vossen does make a bracket?

Ive had no sensors and the light on for the last 3 years

The light doesnt blink longer than a few seconds, then it stays steady, its not blaring in your face either, you get used to it after awhile.

My new set i did get a 2nd set though cause i want to utilize the feature.

Not 100% sure but i think the dealer can disable TPMS system?

If it bothers you that much, then you should get another set. Unless you want to keep moving them from wheel to wheel and risk messing up your wheels.

I actually got used to the indicator light on the dash. But all I need with mine is to reprogram them. I swapped TPMS when I sold my first set of wheels last month.

SO do you need to rebalance the wheels when you put tpms in if the tires wer already mounted and balanced?

Any time you take a tire off of the wheel, it needs to be rebalanced.

If you're only removing and then replacing the same tire on the same wheel, you don't need to re-balance if you first mark the tire in relation to its position on the wheel (usually the valve stem is used as a reference) and re-install in the same exact position, (no reversing the direction etc).
If you're adding something like TPMS though, a re-balance may be necessary, a tire patch would not be enough weight to matter.

It is against federal law to diasable a tpms system. Are Vossens not compatible with factory TPMS sensors?? If not that is lame considering TPMS has been out for 2+years now.

o i don't know if they are compatable, maybe they are i want to just buy aftermarket sensors and put them on so i can just go to the dealership to reprogram them when i switch rims and leave the stock tpms on the stock rims. anyone with vossen's can you verify this?

You need them as much as you need any other safety device.

My own personal experience was two years ago in my G35 coupe on a hot day on a freeway when my TPMS light went on. I pulled over to inspect the tires and saw nothing. They all looked properly inflated. I limped home at a reduced speed and checked the tires with a gauge. Sure enough, my left rear was down 7 psi. The tire shop found a nail in that tire next morning and repaired it. Had I not had the TPMS warning I could have had a serious accident caused by an underinflated tire.

Trust me; as frequently as you check your tires you may not have the time as a nail can get you in a matter of minutes. And it can happen without any visual clue or warning-- no pulling or handling changes. In fact, that’s the whole reason the federal law was passed to require TPMS. Remember the Ford SUV’s with underinflated Firestones a few years ago that caused multiple fatal rollovers? This resulted in the new safety requirement that some of us foolishly bypass.
