What tires do you recommend? The OEM or others.

Yeah replace it... OEM's are great tires but costly... I'm guessing all you tires are ookin as bals as that one... Get some Yokohama S.drives... Just as good as the RE050A's but quite a bit cheaper...

I recommend whatever you can afford. The stocks are not worth their cost. For $300/tire they should not be noisy at ~8,000 miles with a 180 treadwear. I've had tires with a 380/400 tw that were quieter.

I'm at 11,500 now with just under 1/2 of my tread left (6,6,6) according to Sears when I had to get a nail patched. It really all depends on how you drive and how well you maintain your car. (air pressure/alignment) Some have driven over 30,000miles on the stockers others haven't driven 500. Check out this thread.

Even though I have 1/2 of my tread left they are noisy as hell and mine is a lease which is up next Dec. so I am throwing new tires on my car around the middle of Nov. that should put them were they are now when my lease is up rather than putting new tires on next Summer right before I turn the car in.

So give me some idea. What is the best, what is the worst and what is in between? (And how much should each cost?) This is new to me.

I replaced my stock Bridgestones with Yokohama S Drives at about 24,000 miles and I love them. 6K on them so far and they perform as well as the stock tires with much better treadwear. About $900 for a set.

As far as why several major nationwide tire store chains repair flats for free... well, I'm guessing it's an inexpensive way to introduce their service/products to new customers and thereby hope to gain your future business. Just a wild guess.

Dr.
Stop making sense. That's an order.

you can get a set of kumho for like 700 shipped. after like 5k miles of driving, it still looks like it has plenty of treads left.

Been there, done that. You get what you pay for. Nice when they're new...

I like the Bridgestones but the Yokos have been great on my Alfa so I'm considering BB's advice.

JMHO.
