Bad TPM Sensor?
Bad TPM Sensor?
Has anyone had a TPMS sensor go bad? My warning light for a flat tire has been on for a couple weeks now and I don't have a flat, or puncture. I originally thought I might and went through a cycle of checking tire pressure, etc twice a day, but no change in pressure nor did I loose any when I added some, which tells me it is a bad sensor.
I did change out my tires and add RFT about 6 months ago, but have put nearly 5000 miles on the car since anyone was inside the wheel. It is possible they got damaged somehow but I would think they would have failed then, not 6 months before.
Is there a history of failed TPMS sensors on the G? I had a M45 for 4 years and never had a problem. I even had my sensors removed from my stock 18-inch wheels and inserted in a set of 20-inch FX wheels on my M with no failures. Could be a fluke..... just need time to leave my car for a day while they look at it.

What is the light doing when you turn the car on for the first minute or two... If it blinks for a minute, then the sensor may be bad or you may have a malfunction somewhere in the system. If the light doesn't blink rapidly for a minute, then you have low pressure. Check the manual for troubleshooting.
Sounds to me like low tire pressure... A malfunction or bad sensor will typically cause the light to blink for approximately 1 minute after startup and then it will be steady... Check your pressure on all fours and drive it for about 15 minutes and it should go off if it is a pressure problem...
If that doesn't do it... Visit your dealer.

Yeh double check your tire pressure, get a new gauge or use a different one. I thought mine were bad too but it ended up being a very low rear tire. If you haven't changed your rims or remounted the sensors I'd have to say I doubt they are faulty at this point.
I have a pair of $40 Longacre tire gauges so I doudt they are bad.... I have been checking the pressure off and on for about two weeks and the pressure hasn't changed. Even upped pressure up to about 40lbs in the rear and it held that pressure find.
I have my car in storage for a couple weeks while I am using my work truck... If the tires aren't flat, or the pressure hasn't changed when I go pick the car up next week, I'll schedule a visit to to dealer. Unfortunately, my dealer only has so many loaner cars and it's hard to get in the rotation for one.

Shouldn't take you more than 10 days to schedule a loaner. If your tires are holding pressure then it's not all the big of a deal. I think you can pull a fuse to turn that light off in the mean time.
