Nitrogen in tires
Nitrogen in tires
Obviously most of us, if not all are limited by the lack of filling stations, but has anyone thought about using nitrogen in their tires? The GT-R will only be available with this and supposidly in order for a dealer to be cerified to sell, service and maintain the GT-R they will be required to be able to refill nitrogen tires.
A few tuners are doing it, as are Ferrari and some other high-end manufacturers, but I am wondering if there is a noticible difference and if it is deemed a worth mod, if there are any sources or ways one could fill their tires with minimal investment and access to filling stations.

my 37 came filled with nitrogen and im sure many more on this board have nitrogen also. the valvecaps have a nitro logo and there should be a pamphlet in the glovebox if your car came with it stock...im pretty sure the only advantage is that tire pressue doesnt fluctuate with temperature.
Nitrogen in the tires adds about 10hp/25tq to the wheels.
j/k- Since Nitrogen molecules are relatively large compared to a normal mix of air, adding pure nitrogen is supposed to keep the tires at the correct pressure for longer.
I wouldnt pay any extra to have this done.

Obviously I am not looking to invest in any new hardware, but am wondering if those that have cars that came with nitrogen in their tires have a particular package, or if it is a dealer thing.
I have a fully loaded Journey with sport package and don't recall this being an option. The only thing I don't have is AWS, is this an active steering package option?

there wasn't an extra charge for the nitro listed on the sticker. i don't have 4was either, so i don't think it is part of a package. if you want nitrogen in your tires, any large national chain like discount tire, ntb, etc. should have nitrogen available for a charge.

Pure nitrogen is dry, meaning it is free of water vapor. Water vapor in air will condense out below freezing, such that humid air used to fill a tire will have a large pressure drop when the water vapor condenses. Compressed air that has been dried is every bit as good as N2 at avoiding this.
nitro keeps the tire pressure more constant....as you drive the tire heats up and when this happens regular air in you tire expands and raises your tire pressure......nitro expands less under heat so your tire pressure dosent raise as much as normal air.....thus you having more grip .....we use nitro for racing and seems to help with tire wear also...but for the street i dont think its needed

Nitrogen is a fatter molecule...no it's skinnier. Oxygen attacks the rubber...what about the oxygen and UV sunlight on the outside? Makes the tires fireproof on planes...LOL.

Mine came with Nitrogen as well. Don't know if it was a sport package thing or what. I have fancy blue valve covers that came on the car as well to alert everyone as to how cool I am because I have nitrogen.
Also less rooling resistance with Nitrogen. Not much but it is true. For an example take 2 cans of apple juice remoe the juice from one and no the other. roll both down an incline the one with nothing in it will get there first because the air offers less resistance than the juice.
