Be careful with many of the assumptions I have seen here on this topic. I have spoken to two guys locally that combined have been painting (not powder coating) rotors for 50 years. Both have stories about the disadvantages of disassembling and powder coating calipers, but I choose not to share as it will just cast a shadow on the decisions of others. I don't roll that way.

Both gentleman do amazing work and they come to you, because like you, time is my most valuable commodity.

I will post pics once mine are done and let you guys be the judge. There is more than one way to skin this cat.

Exhaustive prep
3 base color coats (high temp Burnt Copper polyurethane, even provided some touch up paint)
Custom logos applied (my design turned out better than I expected)
2 clear coats
and 7 hours later....
Couldn't be happier as the color lightens and darkens based on the light
$600 plus I gave him a little extra for being so detailed.
Since all the work happened in my garage, my OCD went to work and I was able to check brake line condition, retorque wheel spacers, replace missing or busted fasteners, clean the backs of the tires and barrels of the wheels, replaced a few marginal center caps, checked brakes, cleaned the wheel wells....even made a new friend, so let me know if any of you are in SoCal and interested.

Also, posted picture below of the area along the bottom on the backside which could not be painted. It's very difficult to see, so I had to get my phone back there and the picture isn't great.

Definitely falls into the "why did I wait so long to pull the trigger bucket"

Thanks Alex. Sorry for some of the odd looking pics as I made stickers on my iphone vs trying to color over all the personal items in my garage that would surely get me doxxed :-)

Color called "Burnt Copper". In person it resembles the color of a brand new penny. Looks more orange in the photos.

check it out today. Cloudy. Looks more gold.

Yes, more gold than amber in that pic. It sure does look good and clean and downright pretty. The colored calipers really do peek through the duckfeet because of the chrome. I like it. $600 is a steal for that kind of expertise, IMO.

Let's see some 90° profile shots of the whole car in the daylight.

And what's the "custom" in the abebono decal? Is it the red "a" and red underline? That would be the nod you wanted of gold & red, eh?

I will take a few 90° profile shots at the park once the sun stays out consistently.

Correct on the custom logo. I actually had to figure out the font used (went to Akebono corp. and found the post script file) then change the A and underline, then send to the caliper guy as an example.

Strange how much darker the colors look behind the wheel. The gold I was looking at almost looked brown (the guy had pics bare, and with the wheel on).

I have an idea for a subtle accent of burnt copper, but I need to think about it first as my chimp brain got excited quickly, but I need to let my gut have some time to catch up.

Thanks man. Your journey was one of those that inspired me to take action and set off on my own. Now that its done, there is an empty spot, searching for another tasteful mod.

I had thought about a very thin pinstripe (painted) the same color, along the top edge of that lower indent along the bottom of the doors. On Sunday when I thought about it, chimp brain was all over it. By Weds of this week, the gut took over and convinced me that it would look odd.

I will figure something subtle out to connect more of that color to the car.

That happens. Do something non car-ish.

Pinstripes are almost always the wrong answer to the what's next question.

Grew up around 1960s era Impalas, so nostalgia kicked in again. I was looking for ultra subtle, but when I called the top pin striping guy in my area, he recommended doing one above the door handles. That's when I shifted to yuck and came to my senses.
