DOT3 vs DOT4 vs DOT 5.1

Hi all,

Going to flush and replace my brake fluid and was just curious if I should stick with DOT 3 as is OEM, or go to DOT 4 or 5.1. I do push the car hard but not to extreme levels.

Any advice?

DOT 3 and 4 brake fluids are silicone based and interchangable. DOT 5.1 is not, and not recommended for the G37. Check the wet boiling point for the most resistance to heat. I like brands like ATE type 200 or Motul RBF 600, both are high performance DOT 4 brake fluids that are affordable and readily available.

I agree with the DOT 3A LV examined is the same as this primarily based on the MSDS: More Information for ACDELCO 104110 The MSDS lists it as : Dow Brake Fluid 372LB which fits up with the DOT 3A LV candidate within the look at (APPENDIX B - in 1070186) This is listed as AC Delco GM OEM fluid. If you're now not racing, and want a DOT 3 which works thoroughly at very low temps, this seems like your high-quality bet. Even "moist" this fluid performed far better than the others with appreciate to low temp viscosity, which in flip have to be the pleasant for ABS and ESC device performance. However, it has the lowest boiling factor each wet and dry.

Am I confused? I believe Dot 3 and 4 are not silicone based. Dot 5 is silicone based. The newer 5.1 is also not silicone based to the best of my understanding.
