power steering leak

I went to the dealership For a power steering leak last September 2014, couple months after it started to leak again, they just top it up every time I went there but during the summer I drove my bike most of the time but now I I went back because I heard a loud noise coming from the steering wheel while I was driving.
I brought it back, told them it was leaking, they took 25 min of diagnostic came back and said the power steering rack needs to be changed but since my warranty was over and it has been over 1 year they cant help but there's a whole pile of s.h.i.t too, really not impress when they want 1725 installed.

I posted the picture of their invoice.
As you can see it mention some stuff are loose but my question if they are loose why do I need to replace them shouldn't be easier to tightened them??

Need advice, should I get a new power steering rack?
I saw one Used steering rack & pinion (w/ tie rod ends) that came off a 2011 Infiniti G37X with ~49,000 Miles for $170 including shipping and have it install somewhere else or get a second opinion.
I do not hear a lot of noise coming out of the car plus I work only 5km from work now
Where can I get some of those item for good price?
Tks in advance.

I can tell you I recently got my steering rack replaced. I noticed a groaning noise coming from under the hood after making sharp turns. When I took it to the dealer they said the power steering fluid was a little low and that it was slowly leaking. Ever since replacement I have not heard the noise. Luckily for me my car was still under warranty so I can't comment on price.

Was the issue initially documented while the car was under warranty? If so, you might have some recourse getting it done as a warranty repair.

Why wasn't it properly repaired sept 2014?

The issue was documentated while the car was under warranty, but couple month after that when I went for an oil change I notify them and they only added more that all but it was never documented after that.

I did explain the the gentleman that I came back after it was repaired and his response was since its past a year and no longer under warranty.

I dont know why it wasn't properly repaired but when you read their note on the image, it does say "power steering leak does not appear to be that bad unless customer seems to be topping fluid up frequently...
That something that make me go Hmmmm lol.

I will bring it to another dealer, No more myers for me.

I had the car inspected today and I was told by the mechanic that the power steering rack was indeed leaking from the left and right side of the rack, I did inspect and yes it was leaking.

He also told me that the dealer stretch the problem until my warranty runs out.
He said that he can do the job for $500-600 and the dealer might charge 900, little does he know that they were charging me 1725 for it.

I've asked him to inspect the Stabilizer links, the control arm as recommended by the dealership to make sure they were not loose, he said they were all fine and nothing was loose.

Well maybe I should contact infiniti and tell them what I think lol.

The dealer often tries to screw you. I try always getting a second opinion at a trusted 3rd party shop.

I think you should be looking for a new dealer and never go back to this one.

Both front and rear sway bar links bad.. Really? no chance in hell with the car only at 49,000 miles.

I am at 55,000 miles on my G37 and no play from the links. My older G35 has 250,000 miles and one of the rear links went out at about 220,000... replaced both rear. Still no issue with fronts. & I drove the living **** out of my G35.

In the notes the dealer did admin that it was leaking already, but did not fix it. Call Infiniti HQ, they are usually not very good at helping, but maybe you get lucky.

It's not just the dealers. There are small shops that do the same. Best to be an informed consumer.

Stereotypes usually have some basis of truth in order to exist.

Calling them stealerships for no reason seems a bit silly. I'm thinking there's a reason why people refer to them as stealerships.

It would of been easy but I do not have a garage here, according to the condo association were not allowed to do any kind of repairs to our vehicle in our parking spot.

So I went to Toronto and I bought this power steering rack wit tie rod ends for a good deal, it was taken off an infiniti g37 2011 with 49000 miles and I will have it install for $490 including the wheel alignment instead of the ridiculous price of 1725.
