To Drop or Not?
To Drop or Not?
Now, that I have finally ordered the Akebono brake kit the last item for the time being will be the suspension. I mainly want a suspension upgrade to eliminate wheel gap, but improved performance will be nice. Since I have an AWD my options are limited. Initially, I had planned to go Fortune 500, Camber kit, spacers, and sway bars. After reading so many reviews where the fortunes made a horrible sound I really doubt I want to get them anymore (after all my build goal is Stock+). Because I am not comfortable with these I feel that I currently have a few options.
1. Take a chance on Fortune 500 spacers / camber kit
2. Try K sport true coilover and spacers / camber kit
3. Upgrade to swift springs / koni shocks/spacers (almost as much as fortune 500 i think)
4. Forget it all and just throw spacers on there
Any other ideas?

Wow, honestly I'm interested in doing it exactly like him. That might be the best idea yet. Think u would still need camber kit with those springs? Tamabe, hotchkiss, and some spacers, sounding good for a cheap suspension upgrade.
Don't quote me on this, but a good alignment shop should easily be able to get within spec on Tanabes. My shop got my car in spec on Eibachs before I got my camber kit. Obviously the kit is recommended, but it's not required for mild drops.
best drop for your sedan bro would be tein H tech , mild but berry berry nice drop gets rid of the wheel gap sits right above the wheel. dont NEED a camber kit with this set up but it wouldnt hurt. itll look good on your sedan no doubt, look up tein h tech !
Op has AWD so the choices are very limited. Spring combo will ride a lot better but height adjustment is static. Op you need to answer this yourself.. Will you be fine with Swift's drop? If yes then get springs, if no then get Fortune or BC coilovers

Very true. There is a little bit of leeway of adjustment via spacers but only upward direction and it's not a convenient mean (imo).
As a fellow X member, Best drop is Swifts, NO one makes upgraded shocks or struts( That I've seen). So he Koni's etc are out. You know already but there are no coilover options for us that wont make noise. If your on the stock wheels 20mm all around will get you flush. An hotchis sways are a great choice. I have the above minus the stock wheels( 19's no spacers in the summer) the ride is great the drop is perfect and being in Boston that says a lot , as roads here SUX.
I do run the stock 18's sport wheels in the winter with 20 MM all around tho.

So there aren't any options to lower the G without making noise? That's disappointing for sure. BC coils are my only option for coils since I have a vert. But if it's going to make noise then I'm not interested.
What sort of a drop can be expected from the swift springs? Inch wise I mean?

My BC's made horrible noises! Not sure about the RWD cars but the X cars have nothing. Just springs. I had H&R's drop was TOO low I scraped everywhere. The Swifts are perfect
It's a done deal, grabbed the tanabe's. I had wanted the F500's but being they still make noise, and I got the tanabe's for a great price, it was easy decision. I have not bought the spacers yet, but will after I measure post drop. I am 99% sure they will probably be 20mm all around. I am currently sitting on 19" coupes so I think it should look dope. Hopefully I can get the brakes and the springs on before the end of May, would be great.
