Help: Rack and pinion leaking

Hi I own a 2009 G37S 7AT and the rack and pinion started to leak on the
drivers boot. Can anyone recommend a good re-manufactured rack and pinion company (pros and cons) or a online oem infiniti parts to buy a new
rack and pinion. Local stores are selling new oems for $1200.

Any input appreciated.

where is it leaking from?

You can get a used rack and pinion for $200-300.

Its pretty easy install too if you have some experience working on cars.

It is leaking from the driver's side boot. Thanks for the suggestion but it has been hard to find a used one, if not will consider buying it new (oem) at infinitipartsonline they give a better deal than local nissan/infiniti stores.

2009 INFINITI G37 Rack and Pinion Complete Unit

The core price is what will be refunded after you send them your broken R&P.

So your looking at 300$.

These are re-manufactured and come with a warranty. 3 years 36k miles for these specifically.
Anyone that tells you to pay extra so its new does not know what they are talking about.

As far as yours leaking, how do you know its leaking?

Did the dealer/shop tell you this? Is the boot just torn or is it actually leaking?

check steering fluid level.

I took my car for alignment, where I use to align all my cars. The guy showed me the drivers side boot leak. It is a very slow leak and the steering fluid level is at the minimum normal level where it should be. By the way thanks for the online info. I found this one at carid.com (2009 Infiniti G37 Steering Racks and Gears at CARiD.com) and a nissan tech told me his experience with them is a good one only a $100 more than the one you recommended. I will try to post pics.

Both re-manufactured, no point in paying 100 extra, but its up to you.

Both rockauto and carid are reputable sites.

I would get a second opinion though, the steering fluid has a small range between min and max for hot/cold i would image if it had a noticeable leak you would be able to tell from the reservoir easily.
I have a feeling the shops is trying to make a few bucks off something that doesn't need fixing.

Good luck though!

Edit:by the way make sure your new rack has RAS if your car came with it.

Leaking on the rack at the inner tie rod? Can you confirm this by taking a hold of the boot and squeezing it, does it feel squishy like there is fluid inside; or it is leaking fluid out side of the boot i.e. is the boot wet? Either way the rack would need to be replaced, but no visible leak and no squishy feeling you may want to question the diagnosis.
Do these cars have CV joints at the wheel? I have not looked on mine yet, does that feel squishy, leaking fluid or making any clicking noises?? All signs of a bad CV joint.

My 09 G37S sedan's rack is leaking. Car only has 58000 miles on it! Dealer wants $2100 to replace it. I have a call into Infiniti to discuss. Pretty sorry design to go bad that fast.

Power steering noise so I checked the fluid level and it was low. Filled it and it dropped low again. Fluid on the driveway too. Dealer confirmed it yesterday.
