I need help with Akebono Calipers!!!
Hi guys
I previously owned G35 and now I have G37 since 2010...
I've never had a problem with replacing brake pads before...
But last night It was my first time replacing pads on my G37...
and I accidently unscrewed the bolts on brembo calipers... one side came apart... and brake fluid starting to leak... I put them back together and replaced the pads...
as soon as I finished everything I test drove it on the road... there's no pressure on brake pedal...
today I drove 4 miles to local auto shop without brakes... they thought air got into the system.. so they flushed the fluid... but still no pressure... then I took it to the infiniti dealership... they said calipers are ruined and I need to replace all 4 calipers for $2000... which didn't make any sense to me because I only pull one out... why do they need to replace all 4??
Did anybody have this problem??
Please share your thoughts!!!
Thank you

Why would you need to replace the caliper? If anything buy a rebuild kit for that caliper before throwing money away. I seriously doubt that the caliper is ruined because you took it apart. Are you sure that you put the caliper back together properly? I have a feeling that the problem isn't in the caliper if you don't have ANY brakes whatsoever.
I second that. All you need is a rebuild kit. You broke the compression seal on the o-rings and need to replace the seals. Buy a brake line clamp, remove the caliper(s) and install the rebuild kit, then have a friend help you bleed the brakes. DO NOT drive with no brakes, any accident that may happen will be your fault.
First, they're Akebono calipers not Brembo. I mention it only to clarify so everyone is on the same page. Secondly, there's no way in hell you need to replace all 4 calipers. You only need to put the one you screwed up back together correctly. I'd suggest removing it so you can work on it easily. Buy a caliper rebuild kit. Take it apart and make sure you didn't lose or pinch an o ring. Put it back together and bleed them well. It may take some time and a lot of fluid to get all the air out. Be patient. And DO NOT drive it again until they're working right, that's really dangerous. Good luck.

Aaaah, just a thought here guys. Do you really think the person who thought he needed to take a caliper apart to replace brake pads, is also the same guy who should be rebuilding it?
Why not have him take off the caliper and take it to a shop which specializes in doing that and can give it back to him correctly assembled and with a guarantee. Also the brake system should be pressure bled. It seems very strange to me that even with one bad caliper, at least some of the wheels were not working correctly. The system should have a split in it's distribution so that if the front fails, then the rears should still be working and so on. Also it is absolutely important that when you are bleeding the system, that you do not turn on the ignition or provide power to the computers while doing so. I've been told by my Infiniti tech. friends that if the ABS modulator is powered during the brake bleed, it screws up everything. I think it's even specified in the service manual not to apply power to the brake system's ABS modulator/computer. And I would definitely not go back to a dealership for anything when they give a diagnoses of if you screw up one caliper you must replace all four. That's just plain greedy on their part. JMO-ICBW

Does the non-sports model have Akebono calipers also? I was thinking the same when I first saw that it said Brembo and it was a 2010, I was like I thought they changed after 07 then I was thinking that maybe it was a non-sports model.
To the OP please don't cost yourself more money! Take it off and take to a professional. Or just take to brake shop and have them do it right. I have the S model with the Akebono caliper and changing the pads can't get any easier IMO!
OP....Is this a sports model we are talking about or a non?
unless you damaged the caliper i.e. stripped bolt ect .. you should be ok . i took mine completely apart and got a rebuild kit after powder coating , but if anything seek a professional to determine what is wrong with that caliper .. best of luck
I am the first to agree that having brakes that work properly is vitally important to everyone's safety. In fact I said it. But it's not that hard to where anyone can't DIY it. Yes the OP made a mistake in the first place to get here, but that doesn't mean he's not able to fix it. That is probably one of the best ways to learn how to do it properly, by screwing up and having to figure out what went wrong and fixing it. I'm not advocating driving around without fully functional brakes, but before throwing in the towel he can at least give it a shot and try to correct the problem with a $30 fix by buying a caliper rebuild kit and some brake fluid. If he can't put it back together right or can't get all the air bled out, at least he tried and learned something about car maintenance and repair and it didn't cost much besides a few bucks and a couple of hours. If it kicks your butt, then swallow some pride and take it in to a pro and have them do it. But give it a shot first.
Problem solved!!

I just came here to see if I can get some more information on Akebono Calipers. (Thanks for mentioning it BB!! This is why I had a trouble gathering informations!!)So here's what happened
First day @ the dealership they said, $2000 for all 4 calipers... which did not make ANY SENSE to me...
Second day they called me back with 1 caliper price which was almost $800...
That pissed me off even more...
So I decided to buy a $20 rebuild kit, and if that doesn't work, my last option was to replace the caliper. ($260)
But before anything I just wanted to take it apart one more time and see if the rubber piece is still there. I know most people thought that I needed to rebuild the pistons.. but after I put everything back together correctly, it worked!!! (Don't forget to bleed out) I took some pictures in case there are people like me searching for answers : )
