First post and a question about springs

Hey everyone, I just bought a 2010 G37S last week and I love it! I've already purchased spacers from B2 Auto Designs (20mm all the way around). I think the only other thing I really care to do would be springs to close up the wheel gaps a bit (roughly .75" in the rear and 1"-1.25" in the rear) without losing much comfort. I had a couple of BMW's in the past on H&R Race springs and they were a pain going up curbed driveways and speed bumps so that's not really what I'm looking for. I've done some searching on the forum but the majority of the vehicles I've seen in the posts about springs were the AWD models. Would some of you who have "S" models mind posting pics of your setups? Sorry for the wall of text and thanks in advance!

I had Eibach Pro Kit springs and they cut the wheel gap with no big degradation in ride quality. I think Swift springs are even more mild as far as drop and ride comfort. Search through the Show Off Your Sedans thread for various pics and setups.

I just bought the Swift springs. I'll let you know after my install how it rides.

this was my RWD S on eibach pro kit and 20mm H&R spacers. great stance, i absolutely loved the look. i have since gone back to the stock springs and no spacers, but added eibach sway bars front and rear. sways did much more for handling. springs are for show, sways are for go. combo'd up might be a good idea, i just couldn't live with the ground clearance on the prokit. many guys do not have any issues so it may just be the Vancouver streets ans traffic calming speed bumps...

oh, and those crappy Kumho's are long gone. proper tires are probably the best "mod" for handling.

Why did you remove the wheel spacers

I don't want to speak for him, but sometimes if the spacers can push the wheels out a bit too far and hit the fenders in the front or rear. I plan to put some on after I see what my clearance will be when I put on rims and tires. Also a word that many around these parts will give you about spacers is making sure they are torqued to the recommended specifications then make sure you check them again after you've driven a bit. Some people put on that thread lock but it's a big no no from my understanding. If done properly they can be great for the aesthetics, unsure about the handling improvements.

^^ when you put lowering springs on the G the suspension tucks in more. that's why many guys who lower put on spacers to bring the rims back to flush fitment. on stock springs the fitment is close enough for me not to need spacers. plus, spacers do put a bit more wear on the hubs (longer lever arm) and i plan on keeping my ride fro a while.

guys on stock springs also use spacers occasionally, but i opted not to.

+1 to what Deelow said - if you go with spacers be sure to hand torque your spacers and wheel nuts with a torque wrench.

Thanks for all of the responses! I think that pro kit may be raked a little too much for my liking or is it just the picture angles?

Good advice, canucklehead. Regardless of spacers, you should always use a torque wrench. In fact, OP, there's your very first purchase for the car. Go buy a torque wrench. As for springs, my advice is to put your money in sways and tires. I don't get the lowering fad.

Nice pick up on the Sedan.

So if Swift isn't as an aggressive drop as the Eibach Pro Kit, then I shouldn't need a SPC rear camber kit with toe bolts right?

I'm not going to be racing the car so Im not really looking for anything more than it currently offers in terms of handling. I just want to close the wheel gaps up a bit. Also as far as torquing the bolts, I'm aware that they need to be torqued. No need in buying a wrench, my buddy has a full service shop with ASE certified technicians so I don't have to worry about installs and they're usually on the house haha

The torque wrench comes in handy when checking your lug nuts, which is a pretty good practice to get into.

like i said above - lowering springs are primarily a "show" mod, whereas sways/tires are a "go" mod. if you're looking just for show to close a wheel gap, then springs are probably a good fit. if you actually want to improve vehicle dynamics and handling performance, then springs (at least on their own) are not the best path forward.

this has been stated and re-stated plenty of times so none of this is breaking news...just an FYI to the OP.

Here is a picture on tein S techs. I am pretty even all around. They might be alittle lower than what you are looking for but if you are planning on getting wheels, it gives it a great look pretty close to being flush on 20s.

Because it's probably one of the best things to do your car as far as appearance? I'm sure most people who bought a G37 sedan are going for looks.
