600 grit sand paper? what was the primer you used? how many coats of all paints used? please and thanx

 

600 Sanding Block just to ruff up the surface and take off any grime.
Some generic high temp primer and 4 coats base and then apply decals followed by 3 coats clear.

 

Think this would look good on blue slate? The burnt orange?

 

Just to jump in since I did my brakes over Christmas- I used the same process as most folks here:
Light sand
2-3 coats of primer
5-6 coats of Brake Paint
3-4 coats of this metallic effect paint
3-4 coats of clear coat.

I found that having a household fan directly on the brakes significantly improved the drying time. I did one brake (front and rear) at a time and got everything done over 2 days.

One more suggestion (and FRChillin did a great job on this) is to make sure you wrap up the rest of the brake nicely. I had a lil overspray on my brake pads and a lil spot on my garage floor.

 

Did you paint the back side? Just curious if anyone who painted them on the car has painted the back side as well.

 

I painted as much as I could see with them still on the rotor. When new brake pads and drilled rotors are needed I'll take them off and strip them with aircraft carrier remover for a more professional finish but for the mean time they look great.
