Something doesn't sound right here. My original brakes on my 06 G35 were replaced at 84948 miles with a few thousand miles left on the pads at the dealer that cut all four rotors and charged $529.71 incl tax. That was back in April 2009. I still had that set of brake pads when I traded in my 06 G35 at 171796 miles.
I do a lot of downshifting rather than use my brakes.

I'm surprised you didn't notice brakes dragging and perhaps stuck calipers.

If you do a lot of mountain driving try downshifting to brake your vehicle rather than riding your brakes.

Thanks for the replies-and to be clear, $700 was for entire set of brake pads, resurfacing front and rear routers (at a discounted "warranty"rate), (synthetic) oil change ($75) and a new cabin filter.

I believe Jsolo is on to something and I like the suggestion of contacting Infiniti Customer Care.

Incidentally, the tread on all 4 tires are completely worn-to replace a like for like is going to cost another $1,000.

I have the G37 S w/ sports tuned suspension edition-my rear tires are wider than the front tires-and I'm unable to rotate.

 

Heh, the rotors should've been resurfaced and the pads replaced for free per the TSB. I got mine done all for free.

You can say you have the brake judder issue due to your warped rotors.

At 13k miles..the rotors managed to get warped, the pads are worn, your tires are gone..there is something seriously wrong. The only thing you should have he dealership do is warranty work that's it. You should find a individual mechanic who you can build a relationship with and not rip you off for these type of repairs if you're not comfortable with.

Was your car giving any symptoms of worn out brakes? Did your steering wheel shake when braking from high speed? Did they give you rotor measurements?

Dealerships seem to almost always play older adults and females who have no clue..and a lot just pay up.

 

^ +1. something sounds amiss here. rear tires MAY wear out that quickly on the S (can't rotate) if you are hard on the car. but not the fronts. that seems very strange, unless you've scrubbed the tread from autocrossing? or is your alignment hooped?

as for the brakes, ask the dealer for the rotor runout (signs of warping) and thickness. i'd be shocked if you were out of spec by 13k miles on a DD - again, unless you autocross. the spec limits can be found in the service manual (search on the forum, they are available). the fronts take a lot more abuse so you could be ~1/2 worn up front, but much less worn on the rear.

note that most "warped" rotor sensations are caused by uneven pad deposits. NOT rotor warping.

also, i completely agree that you should not be having the dealer do non-warranty services. you are just dumping money down the crapper. buy your own parts (many OEM parts suppliers online) and take the parts to a trusted independent. there are many around, and brakes are not a complex procedure. even better, DIY! brakes are a 2 out of 10 on the difficulty scale, 10 being toughest. you don't need any special tools. all 4 corners would take a rookie less then 2 hrs total!

 

I have to concur. I just put new brakes on my car. 4 cross drilled rotors - $375. Stoptech street performance pads - $150. Installation by a local brake/alignment specialist - $90.

That's $615 TOTAL for all 4 corners.

I would call Infiniti USA and complain about the car. What you are experiencing is NOT normal.

 

Its hard to imagine that brakes in the condition you've described were not exhibiting major symptoms. Something does not sound right....I can understand problems with a caliper that does not release causing issues with one wheel...but all four? Unless you kept the used parts, there is nothing you can do at this point except to plead your case before Infiniti USA. Very suspicious to me.......

 

my car had warped rotors at 32k and the dealer resurfaced all four under warranty

got a loaner for a day also

Thats me after driving a used Toyota Supra for many years until I got t-bone at a intersection. When I drove my friends car with an automatic transmission, I didnt even realize I was braking with my left foot and gas with my right until my friend complained how bad I was driving lol. Hey-Get this. On my G-37 S w/ sports tuned suspension, my tire composite rating is a 140 which is a very soft rubber and typically found on (racing) track-tires.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A-

According to Bridgestone, these tires are so soft, they do not warranty this model and the typical mileage is between 10K & 12K miles for "normal" everyday use.

Since purchasing my 3rd G-37 last Jan-2012, I'm close to $2000 worth of maintenance with the first year.

I realize that I'm supposed to be a fan of the G's to be a part of this forum, and I am, however, this, my 3rd G, is killing my wallet.

 

How long those tires last depends on a ton of factors, mostly the driver of the car. Most people on this forum report closer to the 15-20K mile range on the OEM Potenzas. Some more. Some less. From your description it seems that you are a driver who is harder on the car than some and will pay more to maintain it. There are lots of other drivers with far more miles in a shorter period of time hand have not had the maintenance costs you have. If you get a car with cheaper replacement parts or modify how you drive it it'll go easier on your wallet.

As I mentioned, I don't drive very hard at all. In my mind, if I were a hard driver, I would have experienced similar wear and tear on my other 2 G's. If anything, I'm a much more conservative driver as I approach my 50's.

Infiniti uses 3 different types of Potenzas. The other Pole Position Petenza's on the Journey edition has a wear (composite) rating of 400 with a 40K mile rating.

My biggest concern are the warped rotors and braking issues.

 

In the interest of correctness and clarity, the rotors very likely aren't warped. They have uneven pad deposits that are causing the vibration. It's not that uncommon. Actual warping is very uncommon on the rotors of modern street cars. My wife has an 09 sedan and it has the same issue at 45K miles as I mentioned in another thread. All it requires is having the rotors machined a little bit to clean off the rotor friction surface. Perhaps switching to a different brake pad may help, the ones uses on your car now may have a different composition than the ones on your earlier G's causing different wear characteristics.

 

Are you talking about the RE050A? I only got 10K out of the rears. Probably could have dragged that out a few thousand more, but when the snows went on, I just threw out the summer rears. They wouldn't have passed inspection on the next mounting anyway.

The general consensus I've gathered here on the forum (and from BB here) is that Michelin PSS are a better tire, lasting 2x to 3x longer.
