Good points, ash... and we have a few tracks close by me.

Something to contemplate, anyway.

Ash, you get those red brackets painted ASAP, or so help me I'm going to lead this crew on an emergency intervention.

This is your only warning. Get your head straight, son.

Point of reference... I had a Racingline Performance FSTB in my 2003 Maxima 6MT. Beautiful bar; very similar to the GT-Spec. Had the brackets powdercoated in "black chrome". Couldn't be more pleased with the results.

If I were you, I'd paint those GT-Spec brackets to match your long-tube intake. That would look fantastic. However, I'd leave the bar as-is in polished aluminum.

I'd also take a moment with that black satin and spray your dipstick handle. Seriously, that yellow is sticking out like a sore thumb. And the brackets from your OEM air-boxes... I'd unbolt them as well and keep them with your OEM equipment, which I'm guessing is in the attic somewhere.

I like you, but I don't like like you...

Yes, I can be infantile at times...

Damn, I'm humbled getting a little of that back at me. Well done.

But seriously, if you don't want to paint the yellow dipstick handle, then zeetoyz makes a really nice, polished aluminum cover. If you contact them, they'll sell you one clean, without the big "Z" etched into it.

Glad I could spread the joy this season!

Actually, I agree with you on the yellow. The naughty trth is, my car is a lease. It's up in June and I haven't decided yet if I will buy it or get something else. Hence all my mods are reversible. If I keep it, I will start to do all the irreversible mods I'm itching to, including black-chroming out the window trim, front grille, and dipping the dipstick in black.

Other stuff too, but haven't decided on everything

A lease? Yeah, you're buying the car at the end of the contract. I would be shocked otherwise.

But then, maybe you'll get all mushy about the next Generation G, and go nuts un-modding your rental.

Nah, there's no guarantee of that. Last car was a G35 lease. Prior to that was an Acura lease. Prior to that were a '95 300ZXtt, '92 240SX, and '78 280Z I owned. I have no patterns and the work I've done on the car can easily be reversed in my garage (by me) over two weekends at most. No big.

The real question is, will I be in a position to buy a track car and the G, or will I try to get something more track worthy and DD-capable? That's why I am eyeing the M3, but skeered of the possible reliability issues.

If I get a track car, it's either a BRZ or a used Cayman.

And the dark horse is the new-gen G. If it's got a decent motor and a DCT, I'm *very* interested. If not, meh.

Hmm. Buddy, it seems you have means and opportunity that far exceed my own, hence the perspective on my decisions, and how that projects on to other people.

I bet you're missing that Z. Loved, loved, loved that model.

More power to you. Merry Xmas.
