Should I paint new akebono bbk?

I really would like to show off the caliper with a different color. I am toss between enjoying brand new bbk and paint it later or save some work and paint it from the get go.

Researched on caliper paint DIY and looks easy enough whether caliper is mounted or not. I haven't seen post where after using the DIY method the paint started striping/discolor over time.

Powder coat too expensive. Does anyone know if factory akebono bbk comes powder coated or is it painted?

I have a liquid platinum sedan on OEM 18s. I am leaning toward traditional red caliper. What other color you think works with LP sedan? Btw future upgrade, new wheels (18 or 19) and coil over.

Thanks for your thoughts.

The OEM stuff is just painted, i believe, as i was able to sand it off quite easily.

Mine is spray-painted off the car and it has held up just fine over the past 3 years. I do have two small chips on the inside (behind the wheel) enough to chip the actual metal, but otherwise still good. No fading, peeling or cracking.

For LP, if you want "bling" i suggest lighter or brighter colors like red or maybe even candy apple red (PC).

Your car color isn't that far off from mine (PG), but i did a dark blue -- enough to show something special, but not scream "Look! BBK!" all day long.

I'm shallow and all about the bling I brought the kit because my pads needs replacing lol

All kidding aside, did you use dupicolor or hvt spray paint? Did you use a sticker or use a cut out of the logo and spray over it with different color?

Btw NICE ride man. Saw you car in sedan pics thread.

Thanks. Used Duplicolor ceramic engine paint. I've found it to be tolerant of consistent high heat than their caliper paint (i track the car.)

A sticker will work for sane daily driving. I opted to spray the logo on as the sample vinyl stickers i had tested did not survive a stint in the oven at over 250 degrees.

More info on what i did here -- Spray-painted Akebono's - G35Driver

Oh, you're "The One"

Any experience with PPG paint in comparison with duplicolor paint? Not sure its worth $ to have it professional painted.

Guess is all matter of perspective. If you are looking from a telescope, you are not seeing the bigger picture. So from this community vantage, yeah "Red is played out.", that's because red is so sexy.

Found this cool thread showing same car with different caliper color.

I'm just messing around.

That is the popular response around here when someone says they are considering painting their calipers red. (I have had two big brake kits on my car; both red.)

You're right. It's all in personal preference. I'm not a big fan of the flashy flourescent or bold colors when the rest of the car is not exactly flashy. Painting the Mt. Fuji emblem lime green to match the calipers is not really aggressive when the rest of the car is stock. Just my opinion, though.

Stock color is boring and the common color that everyone is doing is getting played out. But just choose a color you like that goes w/ the car.

Yeah man I was just poking fun back at your signature, with my philosophy. Btw, saw your setup in "Show Off Your Calipers" thread..NICE!

My car is Liquid platinum Sedan and color suggest class, so have to keep within that theme but I want little edge to it.
