yet another brake (design) question

I have a 2010 G37x sedan...the parking brake is a push pedal

I see some manufacturers out there going to a push button parking brake rather than the handle or pedal

why hasn't Infiniti gone that route? Is there an advantage to a manual parking brake?

theres no right or wrong way to do it.......a park brake is a park brake...they all work exactly the same.....but the difference between electric and manual is a matter of investing the money in it....it drives up the cost of the car and its an extra thing that can break.

the handle brake takes up space (depending on where they locate it).....old school jags used to put it by the door side sill....to the left of the driver, low to the ground.....it took up zero space. I guess infiniti thought it would throw off the design of the center console and opted to go with a foot brake. or it could be infiniti did not want to invest extra money in something they already have

as for electric, my Jag currently has it....it works no differently, just flip the switch and its engaged. What I like about it is that it automatically engages when you shut the car off and disengages when you change the gear out of park

like i said, its all about money

Cheaper for a pedal or lever. But I'm sure a push button parking brake isn't too far in the future. These kind of things seem to trickle down eventually. Hell, I see Kia even has pushbutton start now.

On that Jag, what happens if the brakes failed coming down a mountain road? Does it come on suddenly or gradually to stop the car safely?

I prefer the pedal. My dad's 2011 Subaru Outback has an electronic lever to the left of the steering wheel. It's annoying to me.

^^ how so. My 2010 LGT has the electronic. Never bothers me in any ways... At times I forget to turn it off, I take off and it turns off by itself. =]

It's funny seeing others getting inside the car and looking for a brake switch... especially when I take it to a car wash.
