My UAS Airbag Install

Hey guys,

well i have finally unpacked my UAS Airbag kit from the states and we have started work on figuring out how it all comes together.

First off, i will say the G37 kit is VERY comprehensive... it's come with everything, even including the power extension wires, air filters, even the wire cutting tools needed to do the job.
The only thing it was missing was the bolts for the airbags to connect to the mounts, which took us a while to find over here (we use metric not imperial here in Aus.)

According to UAS it's pretty much plug and play, so last night / this morning we set off to start doing it !

looking at the setup the first place was to determine where to place the switchbox, and AirBag Guage LCD, luckily the flip down sunglass holder next to the sun visors is the perfect size, so we have installed it in there....

The LCD Display from dakota digital was finished nicely in brushed alloy, however it was just a little too big to fit where we wanted it, so we have actually dis-assembled the LCD box, and have decided to mount it directly into the metal trim panel to the right of the steering column, to give it a flush look.

will give more updates later today as it heads along.... !

Loz,

Do you have pictures of the gauges running? I would like to see that. Also did you use your bags on oem struts? I also have the UAS kit and I just installed my gauge to the left of the steering wheel on the trim piece. I just cut a square in it and flushed mount it to look oem. It blends in very well with the aluminum brush trim. Your way seem to be way better with taking the LCD out. I would love to see yours in place.

Yeah we used the bags on OEM struts (for now)
see how it rides first, before going down the coilover path.

I was really happy with the ride before on the RS-R springs/OEM Shocks, so i really hope it doesn't change anything - the car sat so flat around corners and handled spot on so will be interesting to see how it goes on the bags.
Main thing i'm worried about is if it will be too soft. (i'm unsure what "spring rate" the bags will be equivalent to, but i hope it's at least as hard as the RS-R coils)

We are just putting the final wiring in over the next 4 hours, then it should be good to go...

will get more photos up when it's done!

Car is finally running with the bags, will get a video up today.

A few teething problems so will need to keep working on it tonight, but overall i'm pretty happy with the result.

pros:
- looks
- adjustable
- controls & guages work well
- speed (very fast)
- support from UAS was excellent (thanks Zack)

cons:
- Slightly softer / less nimble than the RS-R springs
- Install is a BIG job if doing it yourself, and there was a lack of instructions
- Compressors are noisy + needs to re-gas almost every use.
- only lasts 2 full car up/down before running out of gas
- offset on the standard rims now fails badly haha

^^ cheers, it fits quite nicely in there, had to chop out heaps behind the trim though haha

trying to get the edges of the outside perfect by hand has been a mission, so i think a computer cut CNC machined bezel will finish it off nicely

to answer your question yogregb, I believe he will be getting his new wheels next week so he won't need any spacers . His ride is going to be sick!

Wow great install man! glad to see you got it up and working. I wish we were alot closer! I would have love to got my gauge install that way. Here is how I have mine setup. It still looks nice but your way is much nicer! Word of Advice though, Find the PSI you like riding at and get an alightment ASAP! I blew out my tires within two weeks of having bags from all the toe from driving too low lol
