Rough ride

I've noticed the ride on my G37 (S, 6mt) is kind of rough. I know the suspension is tight, but it seems to be riding a little rougher lately and bouncing in back more than the road has bumps.

It's mostly at fairly low speeds, especially 20-35 mph. I think it goes down some at higher speeds.

There's some curb rash on the passenger side wheels, especially in the rear. It's pretty bad, more than rash maybe. However, I don't think this rough riding started at the same time that happened.

I've also had issues with the tire pressure in the rear passenger side getting too low every couple of weeks. The dealers fixed it, but it happened again, though only once in a much longer time. I just checked and it was just under 35psi, but the rear driver side tire was way above that, and I think the last person to fill that up was the dealer. I lowered it down to 35. I didn't seem to fix the problem, but I didn't really drive it that much to really see.

I also go over a nasty speed bump every day, and recently (around the time it started feeling rough) I took it too hard not paying attention.

Any ideas what could be causing this rough riding? Or am I imagining it?

Sounds normal to me.. but ride harshness is subjective. Did you do any suspension modifications?

what kind of car did you drive before your G? If you are used to a boat that cushions out every bump in the road then the G will be a bit more noticeable...

Perhaps your tires have worn down or unevenly. You might be catching more grooves in the road. Plus worn tires have less rubber to absorb transmission vibration from rough road surfaces.

Sometimes poor alignment may also contribute to this.

Perhaps you're not really driving the car and you only own the G in your mind and the bumps you're feeling are your gf/wife or both that is gradually beating on you with more ferocity each time??

or

What Kahboom said ^^

A blown shock/strut can potentially cause a rough ride. Check your shocks.

I'm assuming you have no suspension modifications.

Rough is relative, so it sounds like you may have had a lexus/acura/honda/toyota/something non-sporty in the past.

The "S" rides stiffer and is not for all tastes. I came from a BMW 335 and the ride in the regular G37 is more like the BMW. The "S" is more hard core for sure. But then again that's why I love it!

How many miles are on your tires? I agree with Kaboom, tire wear can definitely make the ride rougher.

you talk about stiffness in G? i drive the S2000 with strutbar, sway bar front and back urethane bushings track coilovers in stiffest setting anti roll bar, and roll cage all the way around my cabin in my S2000.

everytime i drive the G(even though it is at the dealership getting problems fixed most of times) i fall asleep(mine is 6mt as well)
