BC coils or Tein Htechs

Okay, I have decided that it is time for me to lower my car, but I can’t decide if I should get coils or springs? The car is only on a two year lease, and that definitely plays a part in how much I want to spend on a part that must be removed before I turn the car back over to the bank. My previous car (G35) had springs on it, and I was happy with the ride, but I still wished that I had purchased coils for it because I wanted a better handling car, and the car basically was the same with the Htechs I had, it was just lower.

One of the reasons I’m having a hard time deciding between the two is obviously the price, the springs are not even close to the price of the coils. I can get the springs with a camber kit (don’t know if I need them with Htechs) for around 450$, and I can get the coils for around 1199$ with the camber kit (don’t know if that’s both front and rear?), so the coils are roughly double the cost of the springs.

As of right not I’m leaning towards coils just because I would have the adjustability on ride height, and the car would handle much better than it would with springs. I just have a few questions about coilovers because I have never had them….

1. How hard is it to adjust coils to get the proper height on both sides? Does it require a lot of time when adjusting the height? Also do you have to remove all of the wheels in order to adjust the settings?

2. I have seen pics of adjustment ***** in the trunk for the BC coils, is that necessary, or does that just make it easier to change the settings? I would rather not be drilling and cutting holes in a leased car, but I will if need be.

3. How is the ride on BC coils compared to stock suspension, I would assume the car rides firmer, and handles much better, but is the ride too rough?

4. Do you need both a front and rear camber kit in order to adjust the camber to get it back into spec so there is no un-even wear on the tires?

5. Do the BC coils still have the issue where they are making a lot of noise?

Thanks,

Tom

Since you are on a lease, I'd go with Springs. Easy enought to switch back to the stockers when you turn it back in. No sense in spending the money on coils in your case.

^^BJ is prolly right about that. If you are only going to have the car for 24 months and return it, save some money and go with springs. I have BC and have no issues but there are a few peeps on here that have a little rattle.

I understand that 2 years is not a long time, but I can also sell the coils at the end of the lease.

I'm just scared I will get springs and wish I had got coils, that's what happened with my G35.

Also I really don't like how the springs lower the rear of the car more than the front, reminds me of an Sti.

Then get the coils... Whatever suits you best. If you weren't happy with springs in the past, you won't be happy now.

Read up on the BC problems before buying... That's my only suggestion.

Go with springs, unless your taking the car to the track a lot, you won't need coils. I have S-techs and I love them and I heard the same from lots of H-tech owners. At least in my case, my front was lowered 1.6 and rear 1.4

I'm almost defn going to be getting the coils.

I would just go with the springs, but I would want the camber kit with them because I don't want to deal with the camber issues I had with the G35. I figure if I'm going to spend the money on that I might as well get the coils.

I think it will be nice to set the ride to what ever height I want it to be, I can have it be as low as H techs during the summer, and back to almost stock height over the winter/snow months.

Other than the knocking/rattle with the BC coils is there any more issues with them?

if you track, then coils, if you dont then springs. simple as that. no need to spend the extra on coils if you are not tracking the car.

Please do not go the cheap route and get H-techs.

If I had to do my car over again I'd never get springs. EVER.

Coilovers FTW.

an alternative are the Megan Racing Coilovers sold at Hopupracing.com. they're the same and are $100 less i think.
