Techniques for braking

Hey there guys, I've driven an 91 Integra for several years now (First vehicle) and now I'm 22 and as some of you might know, going to get me a G37 here by December. I've resurfaced the OE rotors a few times, then got me some cross drilled rotors for replacements. Pretty much the car starts to shake when applying the brakes which tells me the rotors are warped... again.

I was curious to know what some of you guys do to keep these brakes cool so they don't warp. I mean with these being 14" front, 13.8" rear on the Sport models, I don't want to mess these up. I thought I'd take advice now and learn so I can practice before I move onto the new car.

Thanks for your advice and support!

It wont be nearly as easy to warp these rotors. But the cross drilled wont feel as smooth as the other ones even if theyre new. Even though they give you better stopping power theyre not meant to feel smooth, so they might not even be warped. The stock ones on the 37 feel smooth and stop nice. Just avoid slamming on them hard when theyre really hot.

And do you still need to rev-match when downshifting? or no because of the syncro's?

Lol @ comparing the sport brakes on the G37 to a 91 Integra's brakes. I've been beating on these brakes like a rented mule and they don't even flinch. We'll see how long they last.

That wasn't directed at you. I was just amusing myself. I find myself looking at the rotors of other cars now and noticing how tiny they are.

Absolutely, yes, you need to rev-match when downshifting else you are engine braking and blending revs with the clutch -- this is the same as taking off from stop at high revs and slipping the clutch.

You do not, however, have to double-clutch thanks to the synchros.

Oooooh, Well thanks for the clarification mal_TX.

And as for Callaway, Hell, I notice it now and I don't even have the car yet. I went to check out the IS350 and to try and milk some info from the Lexus dealership on the new IS-F coming out soon, and looked at their brakes... wow, so tiny. It's like they're proud of their 12.3"...13.2" brake rotors when Infiniti gladly gives you 14" of stopping power on almost all four wheels.. lol
