Got my car repainted!

Malbec Black again. I still love this color...every day I do. I couldn't help it and redid it the same! Had them debadge the trunk. Also had the grill painted body color on the outside trim and the slats painted matte black to just blend in.

I kept the insignia there chrome as I don't mind some chrome but felt as though the grill was too much.

Looking good! How bad was your paint that it needed to be redone?

The car was keyed basically on the entire right side. Geico stroked me a check for $1150 after deductible. Total bill was $2750. I couldn't handle the idea of having the right side painted all the way and not everything else.

When I bought the car it already had swirls basically everywhere and some rock chips. My dad gouged the rear bumper...so imagine a 7 inch gouge on the left rear. Also the was a small dent around the gas cap. Front hood and bumper were replete with rock chips. Left front fender had a major scratch from me hitting a construction cone or two from falling asleep at the wheel (I was lucky). Driver's side mirror cap was also quite scratched from the construction cones. Other misc scratches.

I had bumper, 2 fenders, and door blend when my 3 month old 2k g37s coupe got hit and partially run over by a lifted Nissan pathfinder in parking lot at friends sports bar. We know who did it they still ran, they ended up with 3 felonies and car had 12k repair bill. The painting was 4k of the bill for sections replaced or blended. I had paid cash for car so I received a check for diminished value for 8500 dollars, the felon was on grandmother's insurance who same as mine, allstate. Was in loaner lexus gx470 for 4 months. Sewell collision did repairs and gave me that to drive since their body shop is attached to lexus dealership. They billed her insurance for the loaner and I got to change out cars a few times so I wouldn't have to fill up gas .

I know the guy at Ultimate Auto Body...so I'd say $2750 wasn't the normal price. Plus I paid him in cash. I am confident it would have normally been $4-5k from him. We've done so much business in the past with him and sent him a lot of business too...so it's not like it was free or anything but it was definitely a "deal".

One thing I can't get over. The car looks 100% better since there are no scratches or dings or anything. But I've had co-workers ask me now who got the new car...and I have to point out to them it's the same car I've been driving here for 2+ years. They keep insisting that the paint is some much "deeper"...more vibrant...just better. I dunno it looks almost the same to me but literally everyone that has seen it has said they always thought it was black and never saw the two tone. I dunno...maybe the clear coat really was that bad???

So...my opinion is this. I don't mind chrome in moderation. I feel like it actually helps to complement my wheels (which are not chrome but silver nonetheless). I don't mind it "here and there". Chrome rings on the fogs. Chrome spoiler. Chrome window trim. But I couldn't handle the massive chrome grill with all the other chrome. It's also the reason I debadged...chrome emblems with a chrome trunk spoiler were too much but the spoiler alone...sufficient.

Remember no wax for like 8 weeks and let the paint bake in sun. Paint will be soft for a few weeks still curing

Glad they got it right, my new M37x had to have some of the paint redone (Malbec) and first attempt it looked like '70's hot rod metal flake, no depth at all. Of course the dealership "couldn't see the difference", I had to put pressure on them by opening a case with Infiniti. Apparently they sent someone in to advise whoever the dealership was using on how to shoot that color.

It certainly is a complicated color. That's why I decided to have the entire car painted. Between it being a two tone pearlescent (sp???) and being 5 years faded I had my concerns about color matching even with Ultimate Auto Body. I told myself a while back that I was gonna keep this car another 4-5 years bare minimum so the investment on aesthetics was worth it.

I agree, you made the right choice. IMHO, this is one of the best colors of all cars out there, Infiniti hit a home run. Given my location in FL there are some high end cars with high end body shops .... that's where I will go if ever needing a paint job. With only 42k miles on my 2012 M37x with a 10 year/120k miles extended warranty, I will be owning it for a while.

I want to do a this so bad...i have a black ‘08 coupe, and I just want it refreshed. I just dont know if it’s worth it to drop 3-4k on a paint job (nyc) for a car that will sit outside. Ive even considered maaco, but I imagine their jobs are priced very low for a good reason.

That looks great. You definitely got a great deal and made a great decision. I love that color.

I have had paint protection film installed on the bumper and front of the hood on my last 4 cars and will continue to do so until I am too old to drive much. One of my main hobbies is making my car shiny so I hate paint chips.
