2009 G37s trunk issues

Hey everybody. I am having what I think are issues with the trunk and was hoping someone could tell me how the trunk is "suppose" to work. Since I have had the car, this is how the trunk functions: when I release the trunk lock from inside/fob, I can hear it unlock. However, unless you know its unlatched, it still looks closed. I have to kinda squeeze my fingers inbetween the trunk and the bumper to lift it up. It's kinda heavy and feels like theres no assistance from the lift support arms. If I have the trunk open completely, it stays open. However, once I have it about 1/3 of the way closed from the top, I can then let go and it SLAMS pretty hard. I have to lower it, keeping my hand underneath it, to about 8 inches from the bumper and then let go. Even at that height, it still slams ... Is this how the trunk is suppose to operate or does it sound like the lift supports might be shot? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If it sounds like the supports need to be replaced, would these suffice:

My 2012 operates the exact same way. as does my son's 2009. Surfnazi are you saying it should operate differently?

It shouldn't slam down, but the opening part is normal. Replace the struts so it doesn't slam down shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes or $25.

If the trunk is slamming the trunk shocks are worn or blown out. I would take old ones out first and clean and relub them and see that clears it up. Crap builds up where the trunk shocks are mounted to the car. I also would clean the area there since car drain line is there under the plastic trim.
