Loose horn/airbag assembly

I just got another g37x. (2012 with 36k) A few days after driving off the lot I noticed the horn assembly was loose and actually clunks when turning. The journeyman tech at my dealership said this is normal, and he heard no clunking when test driving it, which I call BS. They claim there is nothing they can do. I’m going to bring it back and insist they fix it. I am warrantied; I just think they don’t want to pay to replace the wheel or airbag, etc.

The car has had the airbag deployed in the past, FWIW.

I did try tightening it down, but it’s as tight as she’ll go.

Anyone else have this happen? Opinions? My main concern is safety; will the airbag function correctly if needed.

Short vid below to demonstrate the problem.

your original complaint is the horn makes clunking noise when turning but in the video it shows you lifting and prying on it. how come you didn't duplicate the noise while making a turn? the horn will have slight movement because it needs to move downwards inorder to close the horn switch circuit. in addition you state the car has had airbag deployment. what part of the airbag deployment is covered by warranty, please explain you premise?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, Saywhat?, tried tightening the torx screws and they were as tight as they can go.

Crookncastle, I can shoot a vid of the clunk. This video was to demonstrate how loose it is. While I realize the horn needs movment, this is a didferent issue. I don’t even have to ‘pry’, it’s just loose. I don’t think it’s normal horn movement. My previous g37 did not do this.

I bought the car knowing it had been in a wreck, airbag deployed, and fixed.

I’ll get vid of turning when I go out today.

I’ll probably take it apart myself to see what I can find.

well the air bag housing is only held on by the 2 bolts. i would unscrew and take out the air bag and see whats causing the excessive movement. should be easy to figure out once its removed. but yea its not normal.

Try adjusting the spring loaded screws in the steering wheel after the airbag is out...from my memory they adjust the amount of play there is with the horn when you press it...I changed my steering wheel bezel trim years ago and and when I put it back together they were over tightened and the horn wouldn't stop sounding...I had to take it back apart and loosen them a bit .... yours may be too loose
I assume you're not doing it yourself, ask the dealership to adjust those screws...

If you dont want to spend hours at the dealership and want to try it yourself.

Hashim, thanks for the tip, and vid, Gio.

Thanks, Saywhat. Yeah, I was thinking there is no way that’s normal.

Here is the video.
