Shift boot problem
Looking for a solution to a problem. If you have an aftermarket shifter on your 6MT sedan, you might be thinking the same. Or maybe you solved it and can share! That would be great.
I just took off my winter shift **** and put my summer **** back on. My winter **** is this weird plastic that doesn't get cold (or hot), and my summer **** is solid titanium. I can't use the Ti **** in the winter because it gets stupidly cold and stays cold.
Anyway, my problem is the height of the shift boot on the stalk. The neck of the boot has too much up & down play to it. And I don't seem to be able to finesse it into a position I'm 100% happy with. I used to be able to, but maybe I was less tolerant. IDK.
What do you do? What's the solution?
I was thinking about using a length of tubing, like 3/4" PVC, as a sheath around the shaft, while providing enough diameter at the top for a shelf.

zip tie the top of the boot tighter. Should keep it from sliding anymore. You should have a black plastic oem collar in which the top of the boot is attached to. At least that how mine was and still is.

You can see in this pic what I'm talking about. The top of my boot has about an 1/8" to 1/4" vertical play after the **** is installed.

Underneath the adapter, there's a floating plastic "shelf" held in place by a series of rubber washers. I was maxed out using all the washers (spacers) that came with the shifter, and needed a little more lift. So just now I scrounged around for another thick rubber spacer, and now all is right with the world.
The boot collar is tight again between the boot and the ****. False alarm.

See, that's all I was trying to do. The fitment between the boot, the boot collar, to the ****... it wasn't tight anymore. Or rather, it wasn't as tight as I'd like it. It's one of those little things that you can drive you nuts, but it takes time to address, so you just deal with it.
