Thanks guys, very much appreciated! The headlights were something that I had wanted to do for years but was waiting until I did the front end conversion before spending the money on the headlights. I'm very happy with how they turned out and a year later that are still holding up great.... no paint bubbling whatsoever. I have also picked up another set of headlights and what to try some more radical headlight mods, but will still probably send out the housing to be painted by someone else... I just have never been able to do nice paint work myself.

 

finally pulled the trigger on new lights and had the entire housing/shroud painted...went through toy motorsports in norwood/marlborough (for you mass people). LOVE the way it came out and the black paint looks incredible...hate the chrome haha...next up is the chrome around my window trim....thank you to those who helped

theres a terrible glare every time i try to take one, ill get one tomorrow when im at work. @goonz, i ordered some lights through retrofit and toy motorsports was an authorized dealer/installer. They also do a ton of diode installations. HQ is in marlborough, new store opened in norwood. Very happy with the work and customer service, Wayne (GM) is super chill and easy to work with.

Turned out nice. But you didn't have them leave the ribbed portion of the housing in front of the projectors chrome? Any sign of the paint bubbling in those areas yet?

 

no and no, personally i hate all the chrome on the infiniti, they put WAY too much on it...but if i start to see the paint bubbling, i'll let you know...shop i went through has a lifetime warranty on it (not the lights themselves since i got those through other dealers)

after how long did it start to bubble? and maybe im just not privy to it, but what are the signs of "bubbling"?

 

You will know when it starts to bubble. It looks like the paint had a reaction to the plastic when it starts.

 

I've seen the bubbling start to happen in as soon as a few days after painting, but it doesn't typically start to show up until months, or sometimes even years later. I've yet to see a set of G headlights that haven't bubbled on those areas if they haven't been left bare.

 

is that something that is easy to fix/covered by the warranty done by the shop?

 

Once you've painted over those ribbed chrome sections there's really no way to stop and/or repair the bubbling. If it does happen to you, I guess it's possible for the shop to sand down that section and repaint the housings, but the bubbling will most likely happen again. This is why most shops that have experience with our headlights (i.e. OneEighty, Lightwerks, etc...) will leave those sections bare.


Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and yours won't bubble... only time will tell.

 

Mine are left bare and have bubbled.

If you have the STI-R lens and live in a hot climate, it will bubble.
