Thanks in advance for input.. so I was looking at the butt of my black G35 (37 body) and I feel that the tail lights are almost obnoxiously red. I have done a little browsing as to what my options are for tinting my tail lights, and I want to know what your suggestions are. I am not looking to black them out, more just smoke them.
Hi Jabba, this DIY (if you like DIY stuff) is a good looking setup. It's one of the best mods I've done to mine and after a few years they still look great. I have the vinyl GTR cutouts to make it easier to get great results (just shoot me a PM for info). Agreed, the taillights are definitely too red. I used vinyl tint from Amazon, it's a PITA to get it right and if you've never done it before, be prepared to wasted a bit of the vinyl. It took me several tries but luckily the vinyl is inexpensive. It's definitely a challenge to get it around the corners of the taillight and a heat gun is needed for sure. Spraying water and then heating and squeegee'ing it out is what worked best for me.

Yup, there was definitely cussing involved but I was determined to learn especially after watching kids do it effortlessly on youtube but I got the hang of it now and the main reason I wanted vinyl over painting was the ability to remove it anytime. Guess you could sand off the paint then buff the light back to its original condition but vinyl is a lot easier.

The best, and of course most involved, way to do this would be to open up the taillight and paint the inner housing black. Doing so gives the taillights a nice deep red look, without having to apply a film to the outside lens. It's been about a year and it's no different than when I put the vinyl on. The right lense has a couple small bubbles that I didn't get out since I was in a hurry and did that when it was dark but theyre barely visible and that too hasn't changed in the time I had them on. Maybe I'll redo it sometime but for now it's good and it's definitely holding up well
I've tinted mine with a dark vinyl, I hated it at first but it's grown on me. (aka. I'm lazy and don't want to redo it) It was a trial by error and took me 2 attempts to get it done.
