Options for tinted tail lights

I've considered this for a while, but go back and forth about it. My car's exterior is pretty dark, so the red does stand out almost to a fault.
The best, and of course most involved, way to do this would be to open up the taillight and paint the inner housing black. Doing so gives the taillights a nice deep red look, without having to apply a film to the outside lens. Otherwise, a nice, subtle tint is a fine alternative:
