Yep, he's a tough old guy that's rolled w/ the punches, and erring on the side of safety is something to be commended. I do happen to like my smoked tails though (and I did keep my side markers visible)
FWIW I'm an old guy too

I'm 53 with a grand kid, so I'm no youngin my own self. Chekov usually voices his opinion without being a ****, and I can respect that. Some of the other people on here not so much.

Just a quick comment on the illegal tails..you want to see black out lights, check my neighbors blacked out GMC p/u. The man is really not out there to bust tint jobs, it is California, tint shops on every corner. The only safety issue all that damned texting!

I do appreciate your comments. Voicing a minority opinion by an old man on such a site as this may not result in agreement, but at least it should be understood as contributory from an older, if not outdated, perspective. Perhaps I’ve already made most of the mistakes that many of you have yet to experience.

+1 on the debadge; I do it to all my cars (but leave the emblem).

Don't need to buy a kit to do it:

1. Heat badge with hair dryer until hot to the touch.

2. Use dental floss to cut adhesive foam and remove badge.

3. Re-heat remaining adhesive tape and roll it off with your finger.

4. Use WD40 and a soft cloth to remove last bits of adhesive.

FWIW, I'm not into tinted lights, not because of safety issues; I just don't think they look any better than OEM lights...

You'll have to use some mild rubbing compound like Macguairs "ultimate compound" followed w/ a mild polish, or often just a good wax will suffice. If you have a random orbit buffer (or a buddy w/ one) it will make it much easier.

If you take a buffer to the back of the deck lid be VERY careful! The clear on mine was a little thin out toward the side where I took the dealer stencil off. The trunklid will be getting painted in the Spring along with(if things pan out) a new sport front bumper.
