5 hours is way too much for the HID to handle, you havent heard of the fires that has caused everything gets hot in the engine bay and kaboom your dead
We moved from California to Virginia and drove pretty much nonstop only for breaks/sleep and drove at night lots of times and it was a 93 ford explorer and the lights were the last thing on our minds, lolz
It is also the law in NJ that the headlights must be on when wipers are on.

I only turn on my headlight when it's raining if the visibility is poor. I go pass cops all the time and have never been stopped one with my light off, and my wipers on. But since most people are morons and they don't think about lack of visibility during a storm you have to make law that's easy for them to follow.
