Hey guys.
So I got a hit and run and I went to the dealership for a new back bumper for a 08 g37s. They told me the back bumper doesn't come painted and I was shocked. I hate getting any part of my car paint matched unless its OEM because no matter what, it's never an exact match and I can tell. Is this true that back bumpers does not come painted? If so why the hell not?

 

Call infiniti? Only the IPL/Aero fronts you can buy prepainted btw. Oem sport fronts i believe are sold raw.

 

Most body pieces wont come pre-painted. Think about how much more inventory they would have to stock in order to keep every body piece in every color in stock. Plus the paint can get damaged when being packaged etc. Lastly the paint may not match perfectly. Just because its the factory color doesn't mean that it will match. OEM paint can fad over time in the sun. Its best done and matched to get it painted at a body shop or you can even have the dealership paint it for you.

 

you were shocked the bumper didn't come painted? Have you ever had bodywork done before? They don't come prepainted because there will inevitably be variances between cars based on a variety of factors. Best to have a good shop paint it and blend if necessary.

 

Just get the IPL rear

 

I had to have my back bumper replaced a few years ago. I don’t know if it came pre-painted but the result was a perfect match on my blue slate G37 coupe so I didn’t care if it came pre-painted or not.

bought my sport bumper from infiniti and it came unpainted. your better off. you have an older infiniti and there are so many variables. your paint could or could not be faded from the sun, elements etc. then a shop would have to strip it and repaint perhaps costing u more money. just find a good shop get it done right the first time and youll be happy

 

Im A collision painter. In my whole career I have yet to see a bumper come to my shop painted. OEM Nissan/Infinity comes in complete raw plastic. Which needs to be prepped good. Which includes adhesion promoter, then sealer then base coat then clear coat. If your painter knows what he is doing you will not be able to tell. Im very **** on color My colors always match when they leave my paint booth. And yes the exact same paint code can have so many different variances to it. Which is why we have a variance deck. And even then you still might have to tint the paint to match. for example I painted QX1 today which had 4 different variances none of which matched and I had to tint the base and the pearl to get it correct. Take it to a good shop. And when your there look at the paint matches on the cars they are done with and are being delivered. 99% of painters just do not care enough or know how to make them match.

 

OH and ya the IPL does come pre-painted but funny thing only in the colors there are no variances to. Hopefully you garage your car and the sun has not faded it at all for them to match. They only did that so they could jack the price of the IPL up.
