Seat Replacement

So last weekend I took a trip to FL from KY for about a week and took my G. I had just purchased a black belt from American Eagle and noticed that it had started bleeding onto my seat. I sent an email to American Eagle and opened up a claim through their insurance company (Travelers Inc). According to the appraiser this has been an ongoing issue with some of their belts. He came out a looked at my car yesterday and I showed him where the stains were on my seats, (the drivers seat, front passenger, and the rear passenger). I asked him how much he thought it would be to repair the seats and he said that he figured it would be about $1,600 but wasn't completely sure. Well I got a call from the claims adjuster and she told me that the estimate came out to $7,901.32 including a one day rental ($65) since it would only take about 3.9 hours in labor. I did notice that the estimate was for non-sport seats so I'm sure that the estimate will go up even more. I cannot believe that it cost that much! But I am very glad that AE is making it right by replacing my seats.

Umm, Ive read of a few leather cleaners that would take something like that out. Leatherique, Leather Doctor "Strong" cleaner, etc.

But if they are footing the bill, go for it!

I wasn't going to at first. Then I thought I had nothing to loose. So I just sent an email to their corporate office and let them know what was going on, I didn't ask them to replace my seats or the shorts that are stained. All I was hoping for was a replacement belt. Next thing I know they wanted to send out an appraiser to look at my car.

I'm not the type of person that likes to complain to get my way, but I will give a company feedback if they have a defective product. They can't fix something they don't know is broken.

I tried a few different cleaners and solutions but they didn't really work. The picture I posted above is actually after I used Leatherique. I took my car to a couple of different detailers and they said that there wasn't any way they could get it out. One actually suggested having my seats repainted I have never heard of being able to repaint a seat.

almost $8k!? that's some crap even if you're not footing the bill! You could get all of your seats reupholstered with baby seal fur twice for that kind of money.

Someone is taking advantage of the fact that AE is footing the bill

WD 40 might be worth a try in a small spot to see if it works

That or nail polish remover should take it out. Try after your new sport seats are installed

Looks like they are going to replace the entire seat for 8K. I had my seat bottom replaced at some point on my 09 G 37x and it was about 3K. Glad AE is doing this for you. When I pointed out some wear on my brand new 13 xS (after having it for a few days) to the salesman and service department, their exact words were that I am SOL. I will certainly keep that in mind when it is time to buy my new car.

Let us know how it turns out. I am surprised that Leatherique did not work in this case. AE probably used some weird dye on their belts and are well aware of the problem. Glad they are taking care of their customers!

I would start with alcohol of some kind before I went with acetone. Maybe isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol though methanol and ethanol will probably be just as good a starting point.
