Like all other obsidion black owners, i hate my paint.
I"ve done numerous searches before posting this, so i hope to get feedback.
I hate the swirl marks, i hate the scratches. i want to repaint my '08 g37s with tougher paint or i really want a matted color, just not sure which color.
looking for feedback, pics, thoughts, etc. on a matte paint job (ssatin black maybe) or perhaps a body wrap. i saw a sick vid on youtube from dimond exteriors of a g37 body wrap in black.
Thanks team,

Thanks team,
Sorry to disagree with you kenlamp, but I've owned my obsidian black G37 for about 18 months now and after an initial deep polish and cleaning, the paint looks pretty darn good for an OEM paint job. The G is the latest of nine black cars I've owned and they all were a PITA to care for but thats the nature of black. If you take it to car washes or wash the car with a dirty mitt, your going to get scratches. I'm sure there are much higher end pigments and clear coats you could respray the car with but I'd also figure on a pretty pricy paint job. I'd consider doing that for a trailer queen or show car; but not something that I drive every day
Yes agree, wouldn't be worth it. I haven't been as fortunate with the car. Def no auto washes though but I constantly get dings for parking in parking structures, and in Vegas people don't seem to care if they ding someone's car.
I'm really digging the matte black color! Have u or anyone have info on Satin black body wraps? Wraps compared to a matte black paint job?

Honestly the paint on the G isn't that nice especially if you have a silver G like me, the silver on that car just looks bland compared to the other silver cars out there, it doesn't have that wow shine to it...
If you don't want to see scratches and swirl marks, you picked the wrong color. Nissan/Infiniti paint may be softer than paint used by other manufacturers, but with a black car, you're always gonna see dust, imperfections, swirls and scratches more...regardless of what kind of paint you use. Just gotta be extremely careful with how you wash and wax ur car. Somebody posted pics of his OB coupe on the FB coupe page and his paint looks like glass. It's all about maintenance and protection.
Like all or most black obsidian owners (even black cars in general) you see that had this problem most likely do not take care of their paint. Improper washing and going through the drive through car wash, letter the dealership wash their car for them..and the list goes on.
You definitely picked the wrong color car because owning a black car is like having a second full time job. Either pay a professional to detail your car and get the swirls and scratches out or buy detailing supplies and put in some hard labor to do it.
All other cars are the exact same way..gets just as dirty and have just as much swirl marks:..they just hide it a lot better than black.
It's not the paints fault

We got off topic, I was really looking for help with painting a matte color and paint replacement using a body wrap. I've done searches and found a couple pics, hoping for feedback and facts abt using both methods.
Thanks team,

I not only know how to paint cars, but I manufacture automotive coatings for a living. That said, the paint on my black M is pretty impressive for a factory paint job. The top surfaces of the car are perfectly flat minus any orange peel so they either wet sand and buff these at the factory, or their robots are getting the top surfaces slick as glass, which provides more depth and gloss than a job with peel/urethane wave. There is a slight bit of peel in the sides but just a little.
My only gripe about this particular black is its not black. Like nearly every other mass produced oem black vehicle, when you place a 'black black' spray-out panel next to my car, it's quite obvious the car is far from being a true black. My dad's '12 black F-250 Lariat is the same deal....not black. And I'm talking about stick out like a sore thumb difference between these blacks and a black black spray out.

I believe Lexus offers multiple black exterior colors. They have black obsidian as well. Not sure if it's the same thing as ours. Some of their exterior colors have pearls in it. I really wish black obsidian came with some sort of metallic/pearl in the paint.
Why have 2 graphites that look almost similar?
I agree. The last thing this world needs is another silver or grey Infiniti. I didn't want a black M, but the M's paint palette is horrific IMO.
I don't have a formula in front of me, but if Lexus uses the same black as they do on Toyota's, its a pretty clean black compared to Infiniti's. It's not the blackest but its pretty close for an OEM color.
